Expert-Level 3- to 5-Axis CNC Milling MachinistClient is seeking an experienced Expert-Level 3- to 5-Axis CNC Milling Machinist to join our Precision Machining team. This position is responsible for independently setting up, operating, making program adjustments, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling operations used to manufacture high-precision components for advanced technology applications.The ideal candidate will have extensive CNC machining experience, a strong understanding of milling processes, excellent GD&T interpretation skills, and a proven ability to consistently produce complex components with tight dimensional tolerances. This individual will serve as a technical resource within the department, contributing to New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Process Improvement (CPI), process optimization, and the development of less experienced machinists.CNC Setup and Operation:Independently complete CNC machine setups, including tooling selection, work-holding configuration, offsets, and setup verification for 3-axis and 5-axis milling machines.Operate CNC milling equipment to produce precision components in accordance with engineering specifications.Optimize machining processes to improve product quality, cycle time, productivity, and cutting-tool life.Monitor machining operations and make necessary process adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and compliance.Troubleshoot machining, tooling, fixturing, and CNC program issues to minimize downtime and improve overall equipment efficiency.Quality and Inspection:Read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, blueprints, process documentation, and complex GD&T requirements.Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measurement equipment.Verify that manufactured components meet specified dimensional and quality requirements.Record inspection results and assist with corrective actions when necessary.Technical Leadership:Participate in Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) initiatives designed to reduce costs, improve quality, and increase production throughput.Provide technical guidance, support, and mentorship to less experienced machinists.Help develop standardized machining processes, work instructions, and best practices.Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by working closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering teams, as applicable.Maintenance and Safety:Perform routine CNC machine maintenance and identify equipment problems requiring additional technical support.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe manufacturing workspace.Follow all company safety requirements, quality standards, operating procedures, and manufacturing practices.Required Qualifications: Education:High School Diploma, GED, military technical training, or equivalent machining experience required.Technical degree, machining certification, completed apprenticeship, or formal CNC training is preferred.Experience:Minimum of 7+ years of CNC milling experience, including independent machine setup and operationMinimum of **5 years of experience performing complex setups and machining operations on 3-axis and 4-axis CNC milling equipment.Demonstrated experience operating CNC milling centers with:Haas and Fanuc controls on 3-axis and 4-axis machines. Heidenhain, Siemens, and Mazatrol controls on 4-axis and 5-axis machines Proven experience machining complex geometries, high-precision components, and low-volume/high-mix production parts.Technical Skills:Advanced knowledge of CNC machining principles, cutting-tool technologies, feeds and speeds, and work-holding strategies.Strong understanding and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.Proficiency with precision inspection and measurement equipment, including:MicrometersCalipersHeight gaugesBore gaugesOptical measuring equipmentToolmaker microscopesSurface plates and indicatorsStrong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities.Exceptional attention to detail with a strong commitment to product quality.Professional Skills:Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a team.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Strong organizational and time-management abilities.Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, efficiency, and operational excellence.Preferred Qualifications:2+ years of hands-on 5-axis CNC milling setup and operation experience.Experience manufacturing high-precision components for aerospace, medical, semiconductor, optics, instrumentation, or similar industries.Experience with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, NX, Fusion 360, or equivalent platforms.Experience with tool grinding and advanced cutting-tool applications.Experience using advanced metrology systems, including:Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) Keyence IM Series Keyence LM Series Nikon NEXIV SeriesExperience supporting NPI and CPI programs.Experience with fixture design, process development, and machining strategy optimization.Ability to create, edit, prove out, and optimize CNC programs is highly desirable.Physical RequirementsAbility to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 35 pounds.Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift.Frequent use of hands and fingers when operating machinery and precision measurement equipment.Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.Ability to safely work around CNC machinery in a manufacturing environment while following all applicable safety procedures and requirements.
