Job Overview

Client is seeking a Senior/Lead AI Developer with strong hands-on technical leadership experience to support enterprise application modernization initiatives. This is not a traditional software development role; we are looking for an Agentic Engineer who can leverage AI agents, Claude Code, Java, and related technologies to reverse-engineer complex enterprise applications, develop modernization strategies, and build reusable AI skills and agents capable of executing a significant portion of modernization work autonomously. The goal is to enable AI agents to complete approximately 90% of modernization and upgrade activities , with the remaining work handled through human verification and validation.

The team is focused on two primary modernization projects :

• Project 1 Infrastructure & Core Technology Modernization: Modernize legacy applications running on older Linux platforms and Java runtimes, including upgrades such as JDK 17 to JDK 25 . The team will build AI agents that can scan and understand legacy applications, identify architecture and dependencies, generate technical specifications, and execute dependency-by-dependency technology upgrades.

• Project 2 Security & Identity Modernization: Transition applications from legacy security and authentication models, including LDAP/LDP/ISD , to modern Okta-based identity and access management . Applications will be evaluated individually to determine whether they require a technology-stack upgrade, security modernization, or both.

The successful candidate will be responsible for writing, instructing, refining, and governing AI agents and reusable skills that perform the heavy lifting of application modernization while ensuring technical accuracy, security, system stability, and appropriate human-in-the-loop validation.

Required Qualifications

• 7 10+ years of IT/software engineering experience.
• Strong experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead, Lead Developer, or similar role in complex enterprise environments.
• 1 2+ years of hands-on experience working with AI, agentic engineering, AI-assisted development, or AI engineering projects .
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and enterprise application modernization.
• Experience with .NET application modernization is highly desirable.
• Experience with Claude Code or similar AI coding/agentic development tools .
• Strong understanding of enterprise application architecture, dependencies, integrations, databases, infrastructure, and deployment pipelines.
• Experience reverse engineering unfamiliar or legacy applications.
• Strong knowledge of application dependencies, frameworks, runtime environments, application servers, and Linux/enterprise infrastructure.
• Experience with identity and security modernization, including Okta, OAuth, OIDC, JWT, and LDAP .
• Strong production troubleshooting and root-cause analysis experience.
• Experience handling complex P1/P0 production incidents .
• Strong technical leadership, communication, problem-solving, and mentoring skills.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a systems thinker and hands-on fixer , not simply someone who identifies technical problems. They should understand how large enterprise systems interact and be able to evaluate the downstream impact of changes to databases, application runtimes, shared libraries, authentication mechanisms, infrastructure, and integrations.

We are looking for battle-tested engineers who have worked in complex, high-stakes production environments and have real-world experience handling system failures and P1/P0 incidents. A traditional Senior Developer with years of isolated coding experience but limited enterprise systems and production incident experience may not be the right fit.

The candidate should also have an AI-native engineering mindset -someone who understands how to provide AI agents with the right context, instructions, reusable skills, guardrails, and verification mechanisms and continuously refine them based on real-world results.
