Laboratory Support Specialist

To provide laboratory support for the Funeral Services Department at Piedmont Technical College. Which requires specific technical skills in preparing materials for all laboratory activities. Responsible for maintenance and functionality of laboratory equipment making minor adjustments as required. Work with biohazardous materials, preparing solutions. Maintaining all laboratory safety procedures and report violations to the Director. Maintain/Develop OSHA Standards.

An associate degree in a + (3) years of technical work experience in a related laboratory setting in a funeral home/crematory setting. Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer; Knowledge of laboratory facilities, methods, equipment and materials. Must be skilled utilizing cremation equipment. Must communicate effectively. Must meet with families and be responsible for and filing death certificates. Must be able to meet with Coroners, Medical professionals and Veterinary personnel. Must be experienced in embalming and restorative art. Willingness to work within a flexible teaching schedule (ie., day, evening, weekend) and at varied sites (ie., on-campus, off-campus); Some travel may be required to local, state and national meetings, pending funding. Lifting, moving, and transporting anatomical donors and animals will be required.

Prefer at least an associate degree in Mortuary Science; Be a Funeral Director and Licensed Embalmer in the state of South Carolina or within 3 months of employment. Relocate to the Piedmont Technical College service area within 3 months of employment.
