Housekeeper

Under supervision, performs a variety of major and routine floor care and cleaning tasks to ensure cleanliness of interior and exterior of the hospital complex and clinic. Adheres to the mission and values and standards of excellence of Hawarden Regional Healthcare in all aspects of job performance.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Hawarden Regional Healthcare standards. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, and HRH policies and procedures, including all provisions of the Health Insurance Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior by implementing the organizational vision, values, and mission.

Washes windows, and walls. Cleans all horizontal and vertical surfaces. Vacuums all carpeted areas. Removes trash from patient rooms.

Analyzes floor conditions, determines proper cleaning method to ensure proper appearance. Dry mops and wet mops. Spot cleans floors, as needed. Uses wet floor signs when appropriate.

Coordinates with maintenance on all environmental services activity with the unit or department involved to minimize problems and ensure safety.

Performs special isolation cleaning according to established procedures as required. Removes soiled linen from beds, washes beds, remakes beds with clean linen on patient transfers and dismissals.

Has a basic knowledge of the cleaning products and the proper use in the housekeeping department.

Checks all first impression areas as necessary to maintain the areas in a clean and tidy condition throughout day.

Replaces supplies where needed, maintains cleanliness of all equipment and storage areas pertaining to housekeeping.

Reports the need for repair of equipment, furniture, building and fixtures to appropriate person.

Assists in the cleaning of emergency spills, floods, etc. as required.

Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing established lines of authority, and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.

Performs standardized tasks in the hospital laundry. Such tasks may include one or a combo of the following: separate torn, stained, or otherwise imperfect articles. Wash & dry laundry, mangle, fold and record laundry weights, according to department, in the laundry logbook, and deliver linens to proper locations.

Has the proper knowledge of isolation linen procedures, and also knowledge of the cleaning agents and their proper use in the laundry.

Demonstrates general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)

Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees, conferences, and in services. Is knowledgeable of and complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies & Procedures. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as requested. Keeps up to date on new procedures and research. Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees and HRH business.

Completes all mandatory training such as Healthstream, The Patient Experience, Safe Choices, Crucial Conversations and any other training as designated by Administration.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Previous housekeeping cleaning and laundry experience for a healthcare environment preferred. Is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team. Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change. Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.) Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of Hawarden Regional Healthcare.

Must successfully pass pre-employment physical examination, drug screening, and must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives. Must possess the ability to comply with Hawarden's policies and procedures. Primarily works inside with frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending and occasional lifting of supplies not in excess of 30 pounds. Able to perform effectively under stressful situations. Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, such as exposure to noise, chemical and/or chemical fumes, and infectious disease. Regular and physical attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
