Job Requirements Under limited supervision, this position serves as a partner to attorneys in the assigned practice group and is responsible for providing paralegal support to assist with the delivery of legal services to the Medical System. In addition to traditional paralegal responsibilities, this position supports the Practice Group Chief with practice group administration, matter tracking, outside counsel and budget reporting, process improvement, coordination of selected legal projects and client communication and relationships. Primary Responsibilities The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed. Practice Group Management Assist Practice Group Chief with practice management responsibilities, including:
• Using matter management software and other tracking tools to monitor and report key practice group metrics, including matter type, attorney workload, status, and time to completion.
• Using billing software and other tracking tools to monitor outside counsel expenses, identify trends and budget variances, prepare reports, and coordinate with Finance colleagues to facilitate timely resolution of billing and budget matters.
• Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures, templates, trackers, and other process tools to support efficient use of legal resources and consistent practice group operations. Project Management
• Assist attorneys with strategic legal projects by helping to prepare agendas, organize project materials, track deliverables and deadlines, document follow-up items, coordinate information received from clients or stakeholders, and support timely completion of project milestones.
• Development of standard work processes that support the attorneys' ability to efficiently deliver legal services, create deliverables and manage the administrative component of the office, such as matter management, budget creation and general operations. Traditional Paralegal Functions
• Assist in drafting pleadings, correspondence, and other legal documents (e.g., affidavits, corporate filings and documents, etc.).
• Conduct legal and factual research under attorney supervision, including review of relevant laws, regulations, policies, legal articles, and other materials; summarize findings and assist attorneys in evaluating their relevance to assigned practice group matters.
• Collect, organize and present information in a variety of media.
• Maintain information in computer databases, as necessary; be familiar with electronic database management and e-discovery, such as emails, data, documents, databases and websites.
• Prepare evidence and exhibits for and assist with court proceedings and hearings, as necessary.
• Compose professional correspondence, memos and reports. Proofread and correct prepared materials for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, syntax and content.
• Organize and maintain files and reference files so they are easily accessible to the Medical System's attorneys.
• Analyze legal requests from the Medical System's hospitals, assist in gathering additional information, as necessary, and coordinate and communicate such requests to the Medical System's attorneys.
• Perform all other duties as assigned. Work Experience Education & Experience - Required
• Associate's degree.
• Five years of experience as a paralegal and/or law clerk. Juris Doctor degree from accredited law school may be substituted for two years of experience. Education & Experience - Preferred
• Certificate in Paralegal Studies.
• Experience in practice group area.
