Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a busy Cardiovascular ICU position requiring a TX or compact RN license and at least 2-3 years of ICU experience.

Details

Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CCU) in a busy Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital

18-bed unit with nurse to patient ratios of 1:2, occasionally 1:1

Patient population includes heart failure, STEMI, pulmonary emboli, arrhythmias, and occasional MICU overflow

Night shift, 7p-7a, every other weekend required

Self-scheduling with travelers filling open shifts and unit needs prioritized over requests

First to float to similar units when needed

Charge nurse present on most shifts, though not always free of patient assignment

Minimal patient care assistant support shared across the unit

24/7 in-house respiratory therapy support and CCU fellow availability

Uses EPIC EMR for documentation

No call or standby requirements

Two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation provided

Requirements

Active TX or Compact RN license required

BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 2-3 years of ICU experience required, with previous travel experience preferred

Experience managing ventilators, pressors, and hemodynamic monitoring (PAC, CVP, arterial lines) required

Experience with sheaths, IABP, Impella, and CRRT preferred

Experience titrating drips such as epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, dobutamine, milrinone, amiodarone, and cardene required

Ability to interpret own telemetry strips required

Experience with ventilator troubleshooting and emergency airway intervention required

EPIC charting experience required

Must provide a copy of driver's license for consideration

Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

Provide direct patient care to cardiovascular and critical care patients including ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and titration of vasoactive drips

Occasionally manage sedated and paralyzed patients using BIS and TOF monitoring

Collaborate with RTs and CCU fellow available 24/7 for patient management

Must be flexible with scheduling as self-scheduling is not permitted for travelers

Holiday coverage generally required, along with days before and after the holiday

Dress code includes teal scrub tops and bottoms with solid or coordinating non-terrycloth jackets
