Student Employment - GMBS FWS Specialist 1

Job Summary

The Specialist I position within the Gail Miller Business School works to support the needs of the program, faculty, staff, and students in various capacities including but not limited to staffing reception desks, general organizing and cleaning related to day-to-day operations, and other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Greet and direct students and guests of the Gail Miller Business School, including through telephone, email, and in-person interactions.

Assist the Associate Dean's and Dean's Offices as needed, including event set up, and other tasks.

Primarily responsible for the cleanliness and organization of the Kickstarter / Maker spaces and Micro Market, staffing the learning resource center, computer labs.

The Specialist I will also support scheduling needs for the Kickstarter and Maker Spaces.

Punctual and dependable, with a professional and positive attitude.

The candidate should have good oral and written communication skills and be able to work with a diverse range of people.

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Applications

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Front Desk & Student Support:

Greet and assist walk-ins, ensuring all visitors feel welcomed and respected.

Schedule appointments and manage daily schedule updates.

Answer phone calls and voicemails professionally and accurately.

Refer students, employers, and faculty to appropriate staff when needed.

Administrative Duties:

Follow opening/closing and weekly checklists.

Maintain confidentiality and uphold professionalism in all interactions.

Assist with event prep, marketing tasks, and tabling when assigned.

Practice and apply strong communication, time management, and follow-through.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled SLCC student.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, 1520 hours per week.

Professionalism, punctuality, and attention to detail.

Ability to provide excellent customer service.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Comfort with basic computer tools (Microsoft Office, Teams, email).

Willingness to learn and help others in a fast-paced environment.

Eligible for FWS funding

Preferred Qualifications

Previous customer service or peer support experience.

Bilingual or multilingual skills a plus.
