Electrician Tech

POSITION SUMMARY

The Electrician Tech will carry out maintenance programs and electrical projects, while ensuring consistent operation of all electrical equipment within the mill environment. Requirements include strong communication, problem solving, computer skills, dedication to safety procedures, the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment while exercising good judgment and maintaining confidentiality. The tech will be designated as either an A, B or C rate based upon previous work experience, validated knowledge and other methodologies.

Dependent upon the candidate's previous experience and skill sets, the Electrician Tech may also be responsible for training and instruction of other electrical employees on safe and productive work habits while prioritizing a multitude of tasks to ensure deadlines are met along with the proper reporting and recording of electrical and safety issues. The position may have the authority to train and direct the workforce within the prescribed policies, procedures, and regulations of the operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities:

• Evaluating electrical systems and applications by designing and conducting field research

• Applying knowledge of equipment and company installation practices

• Maintaining product and company reputations by complying with federal and state regulations

• Assisting the team with preliminary and detail design tasks

• Reads and interprets electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams

• Ensuring projects meet electrical safety regulations

• Investigating technical problems

• Identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions

• Imparts training and knowledge transfer, on a regular basis, to other electrical employees

• Will be called upon to act as a trainer and/or mentor for new employees or those employees needing additional support and training.

• Assisting with the implementation of new standards aimed at increasing productivity and safety through solid modeling best practices, drawing standards, release procedures, and regulatory audits.

• Offers help and support to other projects and preventative maintenance processes.

• Other duties as required.

Safety

• Commitment to safety by following work safe rules, regulations, and policies in accordance to company guidelines.

• Ensures the Electrical Department operates in a safe manner in accordance to work safe rules, regulations, and policies

• Promotes and maintains safety awareness and trains staff to recognize and immediately report any unsafe acts, conditions, or unsafe equipment within the facility to help eliminate safety hazards

• Ensure employees are trained in safe work practices and are compliant with regulations and policies

• Ensure all aspects of the mills established safety program are delivered to employees in a timely and effective manner

• Communicate with crew on topics of safety, continuous improvement opportunities, and direction of department

Operational

• May lead others while performing routine preventative maintenance on all electrical equipment within the mill environment.

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and maintain pneumatic, mechanical, hydraulic components and other electrical equipment as required.

• Inspect electrical equipment and conduct root cause analysis.

• Replace faulty electrical elements on various machinery including motors, relays, switches, gearboxes, and other electrical components.

• Develop and implement effective maintenance plans in collaboration with other members of the maintenance team.

• Deploy safe maintenance practices for regulating and scheduling breakdowns.

• May inspect and report on the work product of others in the electrical department.

Education and/or Experience and Other Re quirements

• Degreed or Certified Electrician

• Strong background in the use of PLC, VFD & HMI systems to assist in troubleshooting issues

• Previous supervisory experience as supervisor, foreman or lead

• Previous experience in a forest products/sawmill environment considered an asset

• Thorough understanding of applicable electrical codes

• Experience designing and specifying Power Distribution equipment and Motor Control Centers also an asset

• This position will be required to work an on-call rotation schedule for the purposes of business continuity. Additionally, due to this need, there may be periodic requests to work nights, weekends or holiday hours.

• Have a working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical controls, prints, and PLC.

• Be familiar with the workings of all equipment operating in the mill and be able to competently troubleshoot problems and repair them in a timely manner.

• Working with live voltage for trouble shooting purposes up to 480VAC.

Environmental Conditions

• Work is performed in an industrial mill environment. This includes working at heights requiring the use of ladders, platform and lifting machinery. Work is often performed in tight, dirty, oily areas including confined spaces. Overall, the mill is exposed to outdoor temperatures where extreme heat and cold will be a condition of work.
