Position Summary The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina ( UNC ) School of Medicine at Chapel Hill is seeking a fixed term faculty to join the Center for Women’s Mood Disorders ( CWMD ). This position is primarily clinical in nature and will focus on providing evidence-based assessment and psychotherapy services to individuals experiencing mental health concerns during the perinatal period, including pregnancy, the postpartum year, and following pregnancy or infant loss. Clinical services will be delivered primarily through outpatient care settings using both in-person and telehealth modalities. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience. Primary responsibilities include providing psychotherapy within the Perinatal Behavioral Health Psychotherapy Program and collaborating closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, advanced practice providers, trainees, and other members of a multidisciplinary team. The faculty member will provide assessment and treatment for a broad range of perinatal mental health concerns, including mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, trauma-related conditions, adjustment concerns, and other reproductive mental health conditions. Experience working with individuals undergoing fertility treatment and those experiencing reproductive mental health challenges such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder ( PMDD ) and perimenopausal mental health concerns is highly desirable. This position may include teaching and supervision responsibilities within the department’s training programs. The faculty member may provide clinical supervision to psychology interns, psychology fellows, practicum students, psychiatry residents, social work trainees, and other interprofessional learners. Additional teaching activities may include participation in seminars, case conferences, and didactic programming related to perinatal and reproductive mental health. Faculty are expected to contribute to the academic mission of the department through excellence in clinical care, education, service, and scholarly activity. Participation in program development, quality improvement initiatives, clinical research collaborations, and other scholarly endeavors is encouraged. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in evidence-based psychotherapies for individuals in the perinatal period, including behavioral interventions such as Behavioral Activation and Exposure and Response Prevention, as well as third-wave behavioral approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT ) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT ). Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to patient-centered and culturally responsive care, and the ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams. Minimum Education And Experience Requirements A doctoral degree in psychology. Experience in supervision of psychology graduate students or trainees. Applicants are required to have experience working with mental health in the perinatal context. Experience and success working well within a multidisciplinary environment. North Carolina Licensure by start date of the faculty position. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience Experience treating reproductive mental health conditions such as PMDD , infertility-related distress, and perimenopausal mental health concerns.
