Custodial AssistantThe New York Hall of Science seeks a skilled Custodial Assistant to join its dedicated Facilities team. Custodial Assistants are responsible for maintaining cleanliness of buildings and grounds, ensuring an overall positive experience for visitors and staff. Custodial Assistants work under close supervision, performs work of ordinary difficulty in cleaning public buildings and their immediate grounds; performs related light labor duties; performs related work.Principal ResponsibilitiesExamples of typical tasks, include:Sweeps, damp mops, and wet mops office floors, toilets, corridors, lobbies and other assigned floor areasCleans wash basins and other toilet room facilitiesWashes walls by hand with a brush or by using an electric machineScrubs floors with an electric machine; waxes and polishes floorsHand scrubs stairs and stair landingsEmpties waste baskets and disposes of refuseVacuums rugs and carpetsDusts, and removes and cleans Venetian blindsPerforms shoulder high and high dusting of wallsPolishes furniture and metal workCleans mirrors and glass in bookcases and doorsWashes electric light fixturesReplenishes bathroom supplies in toiletsSweeps sidewalks and removes snow from sidewalks; washes sidewalks and lower portions of buildings with brush and hoseReplaces bulbs and fusesAttends a low-pressure heating plantMay occasionally operate an elevator, move furniture or act as watch personOther related duties, and responsibilities, as assignedQualificationsThere are no formal education or experience requirementsPhysical RequirementsMobility: Must be able to move about the building to perform cleaning tasks, including standing, walking, and climbing stairs for extended periodsLifting: Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, such as trash bags, cleaning supplies, and equipmentManual Dexterity: Must be able to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls, including operating cleaning machinery and equipmentReaching and Bending: Must be able to reach overhead and bend down to clean high and low areas, including windows, floors, and furnitureBenefitsNYSCI strives to be an inclusive place to work.
