Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States citizenship. Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree obtained from a VA‑approved school in the year of completion. Full and unrestricted medical or surgical license to practice in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth or the District of Columbia. Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. Physicians in academic training programs may need to be board certified for faculty status. Resident physicians (ACGME/AOA) meeting the basic qualifications may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee‑basis, but they are not independent practitioners and do not hold privileges. PRPs must be fully licensed and have a scope of practice allowing restricted duties under supervision. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical Requirements Work is predominantly sedentary with occasional lifting of 15–44 pounds. May require pushing (approx 2 hours), reaching overhead, use of fingers and both hands, walking and standing for 3–5 hours, and kneeling. Must perform rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, have depth perception, and be able to distinguish basic colors and shades. Hearing aid is permitted. A physical examination prior to placement is required. Position requires drug testing, including random testing for illegal drug use after appointment. Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. Duties Supervises and performs interventional diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and diagnostic examinations within Radiology. Modalities include fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, US, nuclear and other modalities. Body areas include chest, abdomen, pelvis, extremities, head & neck and other body parts. Performs and interprets invasive imaging‑guided procedures including endovascular, percutaneous and other interventions. Also performs minor imaging‑guided procedures such as joint aspiration, injection, thoracentesis, paracentesis, ultrasound‑guided biopsy, etc. Represents Radiology in clinical conferences and multidisciplinary programs. Participates in Tumor Planning Conferences and other clinical and administrative activities related to patient care. Participates in quality‑management activities such as peer review, image quality and equipment reviews, and other required activities. Develops protocols, policies and procedures for interventional radiology procedures and examinations. Participates in institutional committees and boards as required. Maintains BLS skills and certification. Supervises residents and fellows in daily clinical work and ensures accurate and timely reporting of studies. Provides trainee evaluations in accordance with institutional training agreements. Benefits Competitive salary with annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
