Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

A Registered Nurse is needed for a night shift position in a fast-paced environment focusing on inpatient rehabilitation and orthopedic care. This role encompasses direct patient care in a telemetry unit with a commitment to providing exceptional nursing services for patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries and other medical conditions.

Shift Details

• Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
• Weekends: Every other weekend required
• Holidays: Rotated to allow all staff ample time with family

Unit Description

The unit comprises 9 beds for orthopedic patients and 13 beds for inpatient rehabilitation. In circumstances where medical-surgical census does not support, the nursing staff may be assigned to care for inpatient rehabilitation patients.

Patient Care and Responsibilities

• Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:4 for medical-surgical patients and 1:6 for inpatient rehabilitation, adjusting as needed based on patient care requirements.
• Common Diagnoses: Total knee, hip, and shoulder replacements, cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs), encephalopathy, and lumbar fusions.
• Experience: Preferred background in orthopedic nursing and telemetry; skilled in IV placement, Foley catheter insertion, and dressing changes.
• Patient Care: Titration of drips is not required.
• Assistant Support: A Patient Care Technician (PCT) is assigned during night shifts, assisting with activities of daily living and vital signs.

Equipment and Monitoring

• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: RNs will not perform therapy but may troubleshoot equipment.
• Telemetry: Patients will be monitored remotely by off-site technicians. RNs will review telemetry strips and document findings during their shift.

Qualifications

• Education: Must possess a current nursing license and BLS certification.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a nursing role preferred.

Orientation and Training

• Orientation includes three days of classroom training followed by two shifts of precepted training on the floor.

Floating Requirements

Occasional floating to other medical-surgical units with similar staffing ratios may be required based on unit needs.

Dress Code

Navy blue scrubs are required. Scrubs are not provided by the department.
