Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Logistics Engineer supports manufacturing operations by analyzing and optimizing supply chain, warehousing, inventory, and transportation processes to ensure efficient material flow and on-time product delivery. This role is responsible for identifying bottlenecks, evaluating operational data, and implementing process improvements that enhance productivity, quality, and overall manufacturing performance.

 

Working closely with production teams and zone engineers, the Manufacturing Logistics Engineer analyzes production and logistics data, develops and maintains work instructions, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. The position plays a key role in coordinating material availability, streamlining workflows, and ensuring that manufacturing schedules and customer delivery commitments are met while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Evaluate current manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, productivity, and workplace safety.
• Support in analysis of production schedules, manufacturing methods, and operational data to identify trends and areas for improvement, providing reports and recommendations to management to support decision-making.
• Assist with monitoring and maintaining compliance with company policies, industry standards, and applicable government regulations under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Review production costs, labor utilization, material usage, and future production requirements to support cost control and budget optimization initiatives.
• Estimate production times, staffing requirements, lead times, and resource needs to support production planning and scheduling activities.
• Enter, maintain, and verify production and planning data within production management systems to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
• Develop, update, and refine work instructions, standard operating procedures, and process documentation to promote consistency, efficiency, and quality in manufacturing operations.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, logistics, and engineering teams to support operational objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support problem-solving efforts by identifying process bottlenecks and recommending corrective actions to improve manufacturing performance.
• Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

 

• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, MIG/TIG welding, sheet metal fabrication, and cleanroom protocols.
• Hands-on experience with high-mix, low-volume builds and pilot production
• Ability to identify process inefficiencies, troubleshoot production issues, and recommend practical solutions to improve quality, safety, and operational performance.
• Proficiency in ERP systems, production management software, and data analysis tools.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate production data and support process improvement initiatives.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing equipment, tooling, and production workflows.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across departments and communicate technical information clearly in English.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify inefficiencies, maintain accurate documentation, and support continuous improvement efforts.
• Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities, and work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Education and Experience:

• Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field required.
• Five (5) years of relevant manufacturing, production, logistics, or process improvement experience required.
• Experience supporting manufacturing operations in a high-mix, low-volume production environment preferred.
• Experience with pilot production, new product introduction (NPI), or prototype builds preferred.
• Working knowledge of CNC machining, welding processes (MIG/TIG), sheet metal fabrication, and cleanroom operations preferred.
• Experience utilizing ERP systems and production management software in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting production and operational data to support decision-making and process improvements.
• Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or Six Sigma methodologies is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Exhibit good interpersonal skills to communicate change, train shop employees and work with management.

• Ability to move around the facility and visit production areas, which may include walking and standing for most of the time.
• Hybrid work between GEMBA and office. Candidate must be able navigate both work environments effectively.
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to occasionally lift 35 pounds.
• Must be able to concentrate and remain focused in an open office environment with potential distractions
• Occasional travel may be required for training or coordination with other VDL locations.
