Help people turn “I want to support TEP” into “Here's what I'm going to do.”

People want to help, sometimes they just need someone to show them how .

Trans Empowerment Project is looking for volunteer Fundraising Coordinators to help us grow community-powered fundraising — giving supporters creative, accessible ways to raise money for TEP within their own communities.

That might mean helping someone launch an online fundraiser. It could mean helping a tattoo artist organize a flash fundraiser, a community member host a birthday campaign, a church hold a pancake dinner, or a group of friends turn movie night into a tiny fundraiser where everyone throws $10 into the TEP pot.

Big fundraiser. Tiny fundraiser. Online. In person. Weird idea nobody has tried before. If it brings people together and helps fund TEP's work, we want to explore it. Your job is to help people move from “I'd love to do something” to actually doing it.

What You'll Do

Recruit Community Fundraisers

TEP already has an incredible community of donors, volunteers, organizers, advocates, and supporters. You'll help invite more of them to take the next step.

You might:

• Invite existing supporters to host their own fundraisers for TEP.
• Connect with volunteers and community organizers who want another way to get involved.
• Help engage members of TEP programs and communities, including Sisterhood Not Cisterhood, around fundraising opportunities.
• Identify past donors or supporters who may be excited to become more involved.
• Help develop outreach inviting individuals, groups, businesses, and community organizations to fundraise with us.
• Follow up with people who've expressed interest so good intentions don't disappear into the internet abyss.

The goal isn't to pressure people into fundraising, it's to make sure people who want to help know that there are approximately seventeen thousand ways they can.

Help People Find Their Fundraiser

Not everybody wants to run a 5K. You'll help supporters brainstorm fundraising ideas that actually fit their interests, skills, communities, and capacity.

That could include:

• Birthday and celebration fundraisers
• Bake sales and community meals
• House parties and movie nights
• Workplace fundraising
• School or campus events
• Faith-community fundraisers
• Tattoo or piercing fundraisers
• Art sales and craft markets
• Benefit performances
• Restaurant or business give-back nights
• Online challenges and campaigns
• Community events
• Yard sales
• Whatever wonderfully weird idea somebody brings us next

Some people may want to raise $100 among their friends. Others may want to organize something capable of raising thousands.

Both matter.

You'll help people choose something realistic, make a plan, and get started.

Support Fundraisers From Idea to Finish Line

Once someone says yes, we don't want to hand them a link and disappear.

You'll help:

• Welcome new community fundraisers and learn what they're planning.
• Help supporters create fundraising pages through our Peer-to-Peer fundraising tool when appropriate.
• Connect organizers with TEP messaging, logos, graphics, talking points, and other resources.
• Help them set reasonable fundraising goals.
• Answer questions and troubleshoot basic challenges.
• Check in as their fundraiser approaches.
• Celebrate milestones and successes along the way.
• Make sure organizers feel appreciated after their fundraiser ends.
• Encourage people who had a great experience to fundraise with us again.

For larger, unusual, or partnership-based opportunities, you'll bring TEP leadership into the conversation rather than being expected to figure everything out yourself.

Help Build Better Fundraising Resources

We want raising money for TEP to feel possible even for someone who's never organized a fundraiser before.

You'll help us create and improve resources such as:

• Community fundraising guides
• Fundraiser idea lists
• Planning checklists
• Sample social media posts and outreach language
• Tips for asking friends and family to participate
• Raisely instructions
• Event-planning resources
• FAQs
• Toolkits for specific types of fundraisers

Over time, you'll also help us notice where people get stuck and improve our resources accordingly.

Keep the Fundraising Machine Organized

There's a little bit of spreadsheet wrangling involved. We cannot lie to you.

You'll help track things like:

• People interested in fundraising
• Current and upcoming fundraisers
• Outreach and follow-up
• Fundraising goals and results
• Organizer needs
• Past fundraisers we should reconnect with
• Ideas we want to explore
• Lessons from completed campaigns

The goal is to make sure enthusiasm doesn't get lost because nobody remembered to follow up.

You Might Be a Great Fit If You...

• Love connecting with people. You're comfortable starting conversations, following up, encouraging people, and making them feel welcomed.
• Can hear someone's interests and immediately start thinking, Oh, you know what you could do...
• Are creative and enjoy brainstorming unconventional solutions.
• Are organized enough to keep track of multiple conversations, projects, and follow-ups.
• Communicate warmly and professionally without sounding like you're reading from a fundraising script.
• Understand that fundraising is fundamentally about relationships , not extracting money from people.
• Are comfortable learning digital tools and platforms.
• Can work independently while communicating proactively with a remote team.
• Aren't afraid to ask someone to participate, donate, host, share, or take another meaningful action.
• Care deeply about trans communities and share TEP's commitment to racial, disability, economic, and gender justice.

Previous experience with fundraising, nonprofit development, community organizing, event planning, donor engagement, or peer-to-peer campaigns is helpful but not required .

We're much more interested in whether you can build relationships, follow through, stay organized, and get genuinely excited about helping someone turn an idea into action.

Time Commitment

Approximately 3–5 hours per week , with flexible scheduling.

Fundraising activity will sometimes increase around major TEP campaigns or community events. Volunteers who want to take on additional responsibilities during those periods are welcome to, but we're committed to building roles that respect volunteers' actual capacity.

What Success Looks Like

We're not measuring your success by expecting you to personally raise thousands of dollars. You're building the community that raises it.

Success looks like:

• More supporters realizing they can fundraise for TEP.
• People who express interest actually getting the support they need to follow through.
• Fundraisers feeling equipped rather than overwhelmed.
• More creative, community-led fundraisers happening throughout the year.
• Organizers feeling appreciated and wanting to participate again.
• Stronger relationships between TEP and the people who already care about our work.
• Fundraising becoming something our community participates in , rather than something they only receive emails asking them to support.

Ultimately, we want to build a culture where someone who loves TEP doesn't have to wonder:

“What can I possibly do to help?”

Instead, they'll have a whole menu of possibilities — and someone ready to help them turn one into reality.
