General Function


Professional Tutors provides instructional and academic support to students with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are enrolled in a variety of courses and have requested assistance. This position facilitates student learning by helping to clarify specific course content and promoting the use of appropriate study strategies. This is accomplished through content area and study skills sessions and referrals to other support services on campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides accurate record keeping of student-related tutoring as required for data collection and reports
• Schedules tutoring appointments with students
• Provides a positive student-centered, service-oriented, and professional atmosphere
• Assists in the development of more responsible and independent learners
• Creates and provides resources students can refer to as they learn and grow
• Differentiate tutoring to meet learners where they are to help them catch up, keep up, and continue to excel
• Assist students with strengthening studying and success skills
• Stay abreast of best practices in the world of academic tutoring
• Other duties as assigned by the Access to Achievement Coordinator

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education, special education, psychology, human services, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
• Able to work with a variety of students from high school through adulthood with intellectual and developmental disabilities
• Must be creative, flexible, and possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Learning Management Systems, and the use of a variety of office equipment including photocopiers and telephone systems
