Information Systems Security Officer II The ISSO is responsible for maintaining the operational security posture of an information system and works closely with the ISSM and ISO. The role includes physical and environmental protection, personnel security, incident handling, security training, and awareness. The ISSO monitors the system(s), updates authorization documentation, implements configuration management, and recommends changes to the ISSM. The primary focus is on Special Access Programs (SAPs) supporting DoD agencies such as HQ Air Force, OSD, and Military Compartments. Day‑to‑day support is provided for Collateral, SCI, and SAP activities. In this role you will… Assist the ISSM in meeting their duties and responsibilities. Prepare, review, and update authorization packages. Ensure approved procedures are in place for clearing, sanitizing, and destroying various types of hardware and media. Notify the ISSM of changes that might affect the authorization determination of the information system(s). Conduct periodic reviews of information systems to ensure compliance with the security authorization package. Coordinate any changes or modifications to hardware, software, or firmware of a system with the ISSM and AO/DAO before the change. Monitor system recovery processes to ensure security features and procedures are properly restored and functioning correctly. Ensure all IS security‑related documentation is current and accessible to properly authorized individuals. Ensure audit records are collected, reviewed, and documented (including any anomalies). Attend required technical and security training (e.g., operating system, networking, security management) relative to assigned duties. Execute the cyber security portion of the self‑inspection, including providing security coordination and review of all system assessment plans. Identify cyber security vulnerabilities and assist with implementation of countermeasures. Prepare reports on the status of security safeguards applied to computer systems. Perform ISSO duties in support of in‑house and external customers. Conduct continuous monitoring activities for authorization boundaries under your preview. Assist Department of Defense, National Agency, and Contractor organizations with the development of assessment and authorization (A&A) efforts. Experience Requirements 2-5 years of related experience. Prior performance in roles such as System, Network Administrator or ISSO. Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a related area or an Associate’s degree in a related area plus 2 years of experience. Equivalent experience: 4 years. Certification Requirements Must meet position and certification requirements outlined in DoD Directive 8570.01‑M for Information Assurance Technician Level II or Information Assurance Manager II within 6 months of hire. Security Clearance Requirements Current Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility. Eligibility for access to Special Access Program information. Willingness to submit to a counterintelligence polygraph. Other Requirements Expert knowledge of DoD, National, and applicable service and agency security policy, manuals and standards. Ability to work in a dynamic environment and effectively interact with numerous DoD, military/civilian personnel and industry partners. Reports to a physical location that may require traversing between buildings. May require sedentary work at least 50% of the time. Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to manage stress with a high degree of maturity and professionalism. Demonstrated critical thinking and leadership skills and the ability to work well with others. Effective verbal and written communication skills. All Level I & Level II positions – candidate should possess some Special Access Program experience. All Level III positions – candidate should possess 2+ years of Special Access Program experience. The anticipated compensation range for this position is $97,240 – $118,560. Multiple factors influence the final salary or hourly rate, including contract wage determinations, education, certifications, relevant work experience, related skills and competencies, and Federal Government contract labor categories.
