Food Service Worker / Cashier

Position Summary

The Food Service Worker / Cashier helps create a welcoming and positive dining experience by providing friendly customer service and supporting the day-to-day operation of the food service location.

This position is responsible for accurately processing customer transactions while also assisting with food service, light food preparation, stocking, and maintaining clean and organized service areas. The Food Service Worker / Cashier works closely with the kitchen and service team to ensure meals are served efficiently, safely, and according to Quest standards.

All food handling, service, and sanitation activities must follow Quest procedures, HACCP requirements, and applicable food safety guidelines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Cashier & Customer Service

• Greet customers and provide friendly, professional, and efficient service.
• Accurately process cash, credit/debit, meal account, and other approved transactions using the point-of-sale system.
• Follow established procedures for handling payments and maintaining an accurate cash drawer.
• Answer basic customer questions regarding menu items, pricing, and available options.
• Maintain an organized and welcoming cashier and service area.
• Assist customers and help keep service lines moving efficiently during busy meal periods.

Food Service & Preparation

• Assist with setting up and maintaining food service lines, stations, and dining areas.
• Serve and portion food according to Quest standards.
• Assist with basic food preparation, including salads, sandwiches, grab-and-go items, beverages, and other menu items as assigned.
• Stock food, beverages, utensils, condiments, and supplies before and throughout service.
• Replenish service areas as needed and communicate product shortages to the supervisor.
• Assist with catering preparation and service when needed.
• Follow established portioning and presentation standards.

Food Safety, Sanitation & Cleaning

• Follow Quest procedures and all applicable food safety and sanitation requirements.
• Follow HACCP guidelines and proper food handling procedures.
• Maintain clean and sanitary workstations, service areas, equipment, and dining areas.
• Follow proper procedures for food storage, labeling, dating, and rotation.
• Complete assigned daily cleaning and sanitation duties.
• Properly dispose of trash and maintain clean customer-facing areas throughout the shift.
• Immediately report food safety, equipment, or maintenance concerns to a supervisor.

Teamwork & Operations

• Work collaboratively with cooks, managers, and other food service team members to provide efficient meal service.
• Assist with receiving, stocking, and putting away food and supply deliveries as assigned.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers throughout the shift.
• Demonstrate Quest's values and service standards through daily interactions with customers and team members.
• Report to scheduled shifts on time and in proper uniform in accordance with Quest policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the food service operation.

Required

• Ability to provide friendly and professional customer service.
• Basic math skills and ability to accurately process customer transactions.
• Ability to learn and operate a point-of-sale system.
• Ability to follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to meet and maintain applicable state and local Food Handler certification requirements.

Preferred

• Previous cashier, customer service, restaurant, cafeteria, retail, or food service experience.
• Previous experience working in a school, university, corporate dining, or similar food service environment.
• Previous experience using a point-of-sale system.
