Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room (OR) is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment with a variety of surgical specialties, including general surgery, trauma, neurology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, transplant, and urology. The RN will circulate and scrub, ensuring patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes. Location:Springfield, Illinois, United States Responsibilities: - Circulate and scrub in a 23-room operating room setting.- Work with all service lines except Cardiovascular (CV).
- Provide care for patients undergoing general OR and trauma procedures.
- Assist with a wide range of surgical cases, including appendectomies, cholecystectomies, colon resections, hernia repairs, mastectomies, thyroidectomies, Whipples, cervical fusions, craniotomies, laminectomies/discectomies, lumbar fusions, arthroscopies, carpal tunnel releases, fracture reductions, free flap microvascular surgeries, organ donations, cystoscopies, nephrectomies, prostatectomies, amputations, gunshot/stab wound treatments, and MVA-related injuries.
- Respond to code and fire safety situations.
- Manage latex allergy and malignant hyperthermia cases.
- Operate electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources/cords.
- Administer blood products.
- Maintain infection control and radiation safety protocols.
- Handle and label specimens.
- Enforce Universal Protocol (Time out) Procedure.
- Perform urinary bladder catheterizations.
- Document patient care in Cerner. Required Skills & Certifications: - Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois or be in the application process.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Operating Room.
- BLS certification.
- General OR and Trauma experience.
- Level I trauma experience.
- Experience with laparoscopic assisted bariatric cases.
- Experience with appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair inguinal/umbilical, laparoscopic assisted procedures, mastectomy, thyroidectomy partial/total, Whipple.
- Experience with cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion.
- Experience with arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, closed reduction of fractures, open reduction of fractures.
- Experience with Free Flap - Microvascular.
- Experience with Organ donation.
- Experience with cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy.
- Experience with amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, MVA (multiple injuries).
- Experience with code response, fire safety, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia.
- Experience with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana tables.
- Knowledge of administration of blood products, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) Procedure, Urinary bladder catheterization. Preferred Skills & Certifications: - CNOR certification.
- Cerner experience. Special Considerations: - On-call requirement: 1 week per month.
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility.
- All requested time off must be reviewed and approved by the manager.
- Client may call-off up to 36 hours per thirteen week assignment without pay.
- Clinician will rarely float within skill set to meet facility needs. Scheduling:
- 4x10-hour shifts.
- Shift time: 13:00 (1:00 PM) - 22:00 (10:00 PM).
- Weekend requirement: 1 weekend per month.
- Block schedules are not accommodated.
