Junior Software Engineer KBR’s National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to our customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work will have a profound impact on the country’s most critical role – protecting our national security. KBR is seeking a highly motivated Junior Software Engineer to join us in supporting our great nation, supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) development team in Colorado Springs, CO. As the Air Force’s leader for National‑to‑Tactical capability development, AFRL collaborates with leading experts across the Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, National Laboratories, industry, inter‑agency, academia, and partner nations. Key Responsibilities: Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of software for high‑velocity data stream processing systems Support implementation of software features and enhancements under guidance from senior engineers Develop and maintain code using established engineering standards and best practices Participate in software testing activities, including unit, integration, and system testing Troubleshoot and resolve software issues in development environments Assist with analysis of customer requirements and contribute to software design efforts Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to build engineering knowledge Generate and update technical documentation and project artifacts Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to support delivery objectives Work Environment: Location: Colorado Springs, CO – 100% Onsite or Beavercreek, OH – 100% Onsite Travel Requirements: Minimal Working Hours: Standard Required Qualifications: Knowledge of software development principles and object‑oriented programming concepts Experience through academic, internship, research, or personal projects using Java, Python, or another object‑oriented language Understanding of software development lifecycle concepts including design, implementation, and testing Familiarity with version control systems and collaborative development environments Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and solve technical problems Strong written and verbal communication skills Required Education and Experience: Active U.S. Government Top Secret / SCI security clearance (U.S. citizenship required) Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field 0–2 years of relevant experience Desired Qualifications: Exposure to data processing systems, networking, or distributed computing concepts Familiarity with XML, JSON, Protocol Buffers, or similar data formats Internship, research, or academic project experience developing software applications Exposure to Agile development methodologies Security+ certification Strong curiosity, attention to detail, and desire to continuously learn new technologies Basic Compensation $76,500 - $114,800 (For the Colorado Springs Area Only) The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity. Additional Compensation KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of a sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short‑term incentives, long‑term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
