Job Title: Radiology Technologist

License: Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiology (ARRT-R)
Certifications: BLS through AHA


Must-Have:
- Working knowledge of digital radiography (DR) and/or computerized radiography (CR) equipment, techniques, and protocols.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work as a team and collaborate with co-workers as well as independently.
- Positive attitude, self-motivated, and dependable.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly and adapt to changing conditions.
- Ethical and professional behaviors at all times.
- Basic computer skills required.

Description:
Operates radiology equipment to produce radiographic images of the body for diagnostic routine purposes.
Positions radiologic equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance according to specification of the examination.
Takes x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.


Retrieves radiologic orders and inputs related data into the electronic medical record.
Prepares patients for radiologic procedures.
Escorts patients to the dressing and x-ray rooms, provides verbal and/or written instructions, and assists patients in positioning body parts to be radiographed.
Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
Positions patients on examining tables and adjusts positioning devices to obtain optimum views of specified areas of the body.
Operates specialized equipment according to protocols under limited physician supervision.


Provides patient care within a broad range of health care needs including but not limited to: emergency settings, fluoroscopy, portable units, and surgical procedures.
Moves radiographic equipment into specified positions and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols.
Practices radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices and patient shielding skills to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff.
Obtains acceptable radiologic images using CR/DR techniques and protocols.
Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and maintaining equipment inventories.


Maintains examination rooms and stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies.
Adheres to infection control policies and protocols, follows drug protocols for reactions to drugs, and administers first aid as required.
Supports departmental goals through personal improvements and educational activities.
Maintains professional standards in conjunction with practice standards recommended by relevant organizations.
Assists with monitoring patient levels of moderate sedation and initiates additional comfort measures as appropriate.
Ensures informed consent has been obtained from the patient prior to procedures.


Actively participates in the Universal Protocol for all invasive procedures.
Demonstrates decision-making skills and independent judgment in planning operations and making minor decisions in a complex field.
Works directly with patients and customers and collaborates with healthcare professionals.
