Job Description:

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the University of Florida (UF) College of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a broadly related field. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge, exceptional research within the broadly constituted disciplines of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology that would synergize with current UF research strengths. Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding will enhance the application. Exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level will be considered.

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology offers a growing and vibrant research atmosphere with a newly appointed chairperson and 15 research-intense tenure-track faculty members, including 4 recent hires. Current strengths of the department that we seek to complement or expand include: metabolism (spatial-biology, metabolomics, metabolic flux analysis, and artificial intelligence), structural biochemistry (macromolecular structure using cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, and NMR), and molecular biology (RNA structure/function, epigenetics, gene regulation, DNA repair, and replication).

UF offers world-class facilities for NMR/MRI (AMRIS center), structural biology (CSB), mass spectrometry (CASBR), epigenetics (CEG), cancer and neuroscience (McKnight Brain Institute), and computing that are readily accessible to researchers. In partnership with Nvidia, UF built HiPerGator, one of the largest supercomputing facilities sited at a university in the world with a particular emphasis on the use of AI in biomedical research. Notable achievements include the National Cancer Institute designation for the UF Health Cancer Institute, UF surpassing $1.33 billion in research spending, and UF ranks number 4 among public universities in TIME magazine's America's Best Colleges 2027. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is part of a larger Biomedical Sciences program within the College of Medicine that includes eight fundamental science departments. Educational activities of research faculty include mentoring graduate students and research fellows and team-teaching at graduate/professional levels.

Expected Salary:
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Preferred:
Demonstrated proficiency in obtaining grant funding from the NIH, NSF, or DOD.
