Desktop Support SpecialistNortheastern Rural Health ClinicsLocation: Susanville, CA | Westwood, CA | WIC Office as neededReports to: Information Technology Systems ManagerPosition SummaryThe Desktop Support Specialist provides front-line technical support for staff across allclinic locations. This role focuses on maintaining and troubleshooting desktop systems,laptops, printers, and other network-connected devices. The position requires efficientproblem-solving, excellent customer service, and collaboration with both internal staff andexternal partners.This role plays a key part in ensuring that all IT-related systems run efficiently, supportingclinic operations and patient care delivery.Primary ResponsibilitiesProvide timely and courteous technical support using a help desk/ticketing system.Install, configure, and maintain desktop computers, printers, peripherals, and software.Support remote access via VPN, including setup and troubleshooting.Upgrade and patch software, replace hardware components, and configure systemupdates.Troubleshoot network and desktop issues; escalate complex problems when needed.Ensure system compatibility across applications, servers, file sharing, andcommunication systems.Maintain professional conduct in interactions with staff, patients, and vendors.Maintain accurate documentation of support tasks and system configurations.Attend training and remain current on emerging technologies and healthcare ITpractices.Support user onboarding and offboarding, including access management.Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree preferred).2+ years of experience in a desktop support or IT help desk role.Strong customer service skills with a proactive, self-starting attitude.Hands-on experience with:Computer assembly and setupWindows operating systemsVPN and remote access toolsUser lifecycle and access managementHardware and software troubleshootingValid Driver’s License and auto liability insurance.Flexibility to work different shifts and travel between clinic sites.Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of EMR/EHR systems and healthcare-specific applications.Experience supporting IT in a clinical or healthcare setting.Familiarity with HIPAA and data confidentiality requirements.Skills and CompetenciesExcellent communication and documentation abilities.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.Commitment to continuous learning and development.Physical RequirementsAbility to lift up to 25 lbs.Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and use of computer systems.Ability to travel by vehicle between clinic locations.Clear speech and hearing for phone and in-person communication.HIPAA StatementThis position may involve access to Protected Health Information (PHI).
