Payroll Lead — Division Accounts

The Payroll Lead — Division Accounts is a working leadership role responsible for overseeing payroll operations across division-based and non-enterprise accounts within a multi-brand shared services environment. This position actively processes payroll for complex or high-impact accounts while providing day-to-day workflow direction, support, and escalation management within the division lane.

Pay: $60k-80k

Key Responsibilities

• Process complex, high-volume weekly payroll for assigned division and non-enterprise accounts.
• Serve as primary escalation point for payroll discrepancies and complex pay scenarios.
• Provide day-to-day workflow direction to Payroll Specialists and Analysts within the division lane.
• Support onboarding and training of payroll team members.
• Review payroll batches for accuracy prior to finalization when needed.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
• Reconcile payroll to bill rates, VMS systems, and client-specific requirements.
• Partner with Pay & Bill Lead to ensure alignment between payroll output and invoicing.
• Monitor workload capacity and assist Payroll Director in planning.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy and efficiency.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, HR, and Finance teams.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll data.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in staffing or high-volume environments.
• Experience processing multi-state payroll.
• Strong understanding of pay/bill staffing models.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve complex payroll discrepancies.
• Experience supporting or mentoring payroll team members.
• Proficiency in payroll systems and timekeeping/VMS platforms
• Strong working knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP), reconciliation of large data sets, and formula-based problem solving.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
