Job Overview This position is primarily responsible for the oversight of and directing staff performing stevedoring activities, including unloading and loading barges and sea‑going vessels, as well as advising and directing operations to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable operations. Responsibilities Fully participate in the company Safety Program; attend and lead pre‑shift meetings; monitor, coach, and guide staff on safety to ensure activities performed are in accordance with the company safety program. Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, including wearing the appropriate PPE. Oversee and direct staff in all barge and vessel processes to ensure efficient operations while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations; make independent decisions on process adaptations during shifts. Lead, coach, and guide staff on customer service and operating costs. Manage staff during barge and vessel loading/unloading safety procedures; analyze workload and assign or reassign personnel as needed. Communicate with vessel officers and marine fleets to meet loading/unloading production efficiencies. Regularly update Terminal Manager on operation status, including delays, production, safety infractions, or other hazards. Assist in managing inventory for equipment and supplies to maintain adequate levels. Oversee housekeeping duties in crane, on deck, and load/unload areas. Ensure all documentation and reports are accurately completed and timely, including required safety correspondence, daily logs, and payroll time sheets. Communicate with customers and third parties professionally. Collaborate with managers to provide input on staffing and job development activities, including training, employee corrective actions, and performance expectations. Manage equipment and labor expenses. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent experience and training. Five (5) years' experience in stevedoring/marine industry with management and customer relations experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of facility cost structures, mix and blend analysis, safety, efficiency, preventive maintenance, OSHA, EPA, freight. Strong knowledge of vessel stevedoring operations, vessel operations, and barge handling. Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization. Strong organizational, strategic planning, time‑management, and multi‑tasking skills; ability to remain flexible to changing priorities. Strong leadership skills. Ability to work effectively independently and/or within a team environment. Ability to use common sense to provide direction to others and assist others when needed. Physical Demands & Requirements Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. frequently. Ability to climb, crouch, stoop, bend, and squat frequently. Ability to stand and walk constantly/continuously. Ability to balance constantly/continuously. Ability to kneel occasionally. Ability to walk safely on barge surfaces and work around deep water. Ability to communicate verbally in person and over two‑way radio. Ability to climb ladders and work at significant heights. Ability to work in confined spaces. Ability to work in environments with high dust levels around grain and other bulk products. Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts as needed. Use of peripheral vision and depth perception for task performance. Travel up to 20% for off‑site training or alternate locations. Environmental Conditions The work environment involves both indoor and outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, wet/humid, dry/arid environments. Workers frequently must wear personal protective equipment. Travel to alternate locations may be required up to 20% of the time.
