Job Description Nemours is seeking an SPD Tech to join our Nemours Children’s Health team in Wilmington, DE. This is a full‑time, night‑shift position. The Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician is responsible for inspection, decontamination, sterilization, and assembly of surgical instrumentation within the guidelines set forth by industry standards and regulations, including: International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) The Joint Commission (TJC) U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Disease Control (CDC) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) The SPD Technician is accountable for adherence to the policies and procedures of Nemours, including Nemours Children’s Health Delaware, Malvern, and Deptford Ambulatory Surgery Center (DASC). The technician prepares surgical case carts, supports operating room central cores based on daily assignments, and maintains all state and federal clearances for DE, PA, and NJ for periodic rotation to other centers as directed by Perioperative Leadership. Schedule 40 hours per week, 11:00 pm – 7:30 am Responsibilities Follow established protocols for inspecting, decontaminating, preparing, and packaging instrumentation, disinfecting or sterilizing equipment, and storing medical/surgical supplies. Distribute medical and surgical supplies from sterile processing areas to other facility areas as needed. Adhere to standard precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow safety procedures and manufacturer’s instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies, and equipment. Operate equipment used in the sterile processing areas safely and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Monitor, interpret, and document results of physical, chemical, and biological indicators for all sterilizers used. Prepare and distribute surgical case carts according to physician preference lists and perioperative team needs. Maintain inventory, including receiving and restocking materials in collaboration with the Materials Management Department. Comply with organizational policies, regulatory and accreditation standards, and professional guidelines. Qualifications Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required. High School Diploma required. American Heart Association BLS certification within six months.
