Position Title Exercise Physiologist - Wellness Botetourt Athletic Club (Open) About the Role The Exercise Physiologist - Wellness screens, assesses, conducts tests of physiological measures and applies clinical reasoning to ensure the safety and appropriateness of exercise and physical activity interventions. Physical activity interventions encompass a diverse range of people who could be potentially high risk, have an acute/chronic disease, require injury prevention, pre‑ and post‑surgery management, cardiac rehabilitation, or athletic performance. The role reports to the Clinical Training Manager. Responsibilities Develop clinical exercise prescriptions for individuals with chronic and complex medical conditions and injuries. Perform functional assessments and evaluate movement capacity in people of all ages and health levels. Create and maintain safe, effective individualized exercise interventions for people following acute injury, surgical intervention, or recovery to restore functional capacity and well‑being. Lead programs in both private and group settings. Communicate effectively during training sessions and demonstrate proper technique when appropriate. Monitor participants for inappropriate responses to exercise. Utilize current clinical exercise techniques to assess and treat injuries and other medical needs. Maintain knowledge of injury prevention, clinical assessments, human anatomy/physiology, therapeutic modalities, and medical terminology. Ensure high‑quality data collection in functional testing. Provide clear and timely progress reports and concerns to referring clinicians. Maintain accurate records in EPIC and exercise training programs and create training reports promptly. Update information, record appointments, and manage time effectively. Monitor equipment quality and notify Director of Operations if unusable equipment is found. Collaborate and communicate effectively with staff, providers, participants, and community members. Work with clients at risk of developing or who have existing medical conditions or injuries to prevent or manage acute, sub‑acute, or chronic disease or injury and restore optimal physical function, health, or wellness. Provide exercise‑based interventions and support across a variety of pathologies including cancer, cardiovascular, kidney, mental health, musculoskeletal, neurological, neuromuscular, respiratory, and pulmonary conditions. Qualifications Education : Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Sports Medicine, or a related field. Experience : Minimum of 2 years of recent and relevant experience. Licensure, Certification, and Registration : Personal training certification, certified exercise physiologist, certified clinical exercise physiologist, or certified strength and conditioning specialist from a nationally recognized organization such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA, or Cooper Institute. Carilion‑approved specialty training certifications (orthopedic, movement disorder, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and cancer) are required 90 days after hire. Life Support : AHA BLS‑HCP.
