Staff AccountantThe Staff Accountant independently manages core accounting functions to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of MonkeySports' financial records. This role exercises professional judgment in the preparation and analysis of financial data, leads assigned components of the monthly close process, and ensures transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and company policies. The Staff Accountant partners cross-functionally and serves as a subject matter resource while driving audit readiness, reporting accuracy, and continuous process improvements within a multi-entity retail and e-commerce environment.Essential Job FunctionAccounting Execution & Close SupportPrepare and review journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules, exercising independent judgment to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAPPerform and certify monthly account reconciliations, proactively investigate discrepancies, determine root causes, and implement corrective actionsLead assigned aspects of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close to ensure timely and accurate financial reportingEvaluate transaction classifications and independently ensure proper recording within the general ledgerAccount Maintenance & Reporting SupportMaintain ownership of assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts, including analysis, trend review, and variance explanationsResponsible for intercompany accounting and reconciliations as assignedManage fixed asset accounting processes including capitalization determination, depreciation methodology, and asset disposalsAdminister lease accounting schedules and entries in accordance with ASC 842, ensuring compliance and accurate reportingAudit, Compliance & DocumentationLead preparation of audit schedules and provide documentation for internal and external auditsEnsure reconciliations and workpapers meet internal control standards and audit requirementsInterpret and apply accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls consistently to mitigate riskIdentify accounting issues, assess financial impact, and recommend resolutions to senior leadershipCollaboration & DevelopmentService as an accounting resource to cross-functional teams, providing guidance on financial implications of operational decisionsRecommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controlsMaintain documentation standards and update procedures to reflect evolving best practicesDemonstrate accountability, professional skepticism, and ownership of financial outcomesAdditional Responsibilities and RequirementsExercise discretion and independent judgment when handling confidential financial informationManage workload and priorities to meet critical reporting deadlines, including extended hours during close cycles or audit periods as necessaryPerform additional duties consistent with professional scope and independent nature of the roleRequirementsQualifications, Education, and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required1–3 years of accounting experience with exposure to close and reconciliationsWorking knowledge of GAAP and basic accounting principlesExperience in multi-entity, retail, e-commerce, or distribution environments preferredProficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP/accounting systems requiredStrong attention to detail, organization, and time management skillsCognitive and Physical DemandsAbility to analyze financial data and identify discrepanciesAbility to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlinesProlonged periods of computer use and financial document reviewMinimal physical demandsWorking ConditionsOn-site position based at the MonkeySports Corporate OfficeStandard business hours with extended time during month-end, year-end, or audits
