CNC Machinist

Overview

We're hiring experienced CNC Machinists for an aerospace and defense manufacturer in Arab, Alabama.

This is a high-mix, low-volume precision machining environment producing complex components for aerospace and defense applications. The shop runs a broad mix of Mazak, Haas, 3-axis, 4-axis, 5-axis, lathe, and large-format CNC equipment .

This is not a machine operator position. You’ll be trusted to independently set up jobs, prove out programs, make machining adjustments, inspect your own work, and troubleshoot problems as they arise.

Most work is short-run, with many jobs ranging from one-off parts to approximately 5–10 pieces. Machinists regularly change setups, move between different jobs, and take ownership of the machining process from setup through completed production.

Compensation

• $40 - $50 / hr

Shift

• Hiring on 1st and 2nd shift
• 1st: Monday - Friday (5x8s)
• 2nd: Monday - Thursday (4x10s)

Responsibilities

• CNC Setups: Perform complete machine setups, including tooling, workholding, offsets, and touch-offs
• Short-Run Machining: Set up and run complex one-off and low-volume production jobs
• Program Prove-Outs: Prove out new CNC programs and carefully monitor first-piece production
• Machine Adjustments: Make offset changes, G-code edits, and machine-side adjustments when necessary
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose tooling, programming, setup, dimensional, and machining issues
• Programming Support: Work with the programming department when larger program changes are required
• Blueprint Reading: Interpret complex engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T
• Quality Inspection: Inspect parts throughout the machining process using precision measuring equipment
• Precision Machining: Maintain dimensional accuracy on complex aerospace and defense components

Requirements

Qualifications

Required

• 5+ years of CNC machining experience strongly preferred
• Ability to independently perform complete CNC setups
• Experience proving out programs and running new jobs
• Strong understanding of tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, and machining processes
• Comfortable making offsets and CNC program adjustments
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
• Experience machining close-tolerance precision components
• Proficiency with precision measuring equipment
• Ability to independently troubleshoot machining problems
• Comfortable working in a high-mix, low-volume environment

Preferred

• Mazak experience
• Haas experience
• Experience with both CNC mills and lathes
• 4-axis or 5-axis machining experience
• Large-part or gantry machining experience
• Aerospace or defense manufacturing experience
• AS9100 manufacturing experience
• Experience with complex one-off and short-run machining
