Structural Maintenance Specialist 2

Job Summary The Structural Maintenance Specialist 2 performs more complex duties in structural maintenance at city parks facilities and community centers. Duties may include specialization in certain kinds of maintenance (plumbing, electrical, carpentry) and responsibility for on‑site assignment and supervision of temporary and subordinate workers, troubleshooting of on‑site problems, ensuring equipment availability, and reporting project status to supervisors. The Specialist focuses on parks structural and facilities maintenance, operates and cares for all equipment needed to complete tasks, makes decisions to plan and organize work efficiently, and maintains respectful interaction with the public. Serves as the primary point of contact for repairs and customer input. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Repairs, remodels, and maintains city park sites by completing specialized plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work; repairing and installing locks, motors, and pumps; troubleshooting HVAC equipment. Inspect and make repairs to playgrounds and other playground assets. Advises the Structural Supervisor or Operations Manager for needed repairs, concerns, and resource needs. Use proper methods and products for graffiti removal. Install light controls and fixtures. Repair structures such as docks and foot bridges. Complete quality control assignments related to structural assignments and inspections. Repair office furniture such as chairs and cabinets. Inspect and maintain drinking fountains, restroom buildings, and park assets. Install, fabricate, and maintain park assets and amenities such as signs, benches, fencing, and bollards. Install and repair door hardware. Interacts with CMMS (Maximo) and payroll computer systems. Supervision Received and Exercise Expected to perform with little or no supervision while on the job site. Lead summer, temporary workers and/or Structural Maintenance Specialist I when assigned. Coordinate closely with other Structural Maintenance Specialist II’s. Work with contractors on onsite asset repairs. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience with a wide range of tools and equipment: routers, electric jackhammers, pickup trucks, boom trucks, man lifts, boats and motors, backhoes, shovels, wheelbarrows, pressure washers, specialized plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tools, dump truck, and testing equipment. Finish carpentry and cabinetry skills. Leadership skills and job management. Commitment to ongoing learning of diversity, equity and inclusion, and implementation of these principles in work. Knowledge of safety requirements, building requirements, codes, and ordinances. Ability to envision design intent of facilities and build from sketches. Demonstrated proficiency in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or mechanical repair. Knowledge of ADA requirements. Computer skills: Outlook, Word, Excel, and Maximo. Other Requirements Valid, current driver’s license. CPSI certification (Certified Playground Safety Inspector) or obtain within 12 months (Required). Placement in the 24‑hour on‑call rotation after one (1) year of service. Supplemental Information This is a non‑exempt, union position (Teamsters Local #763). Physical Demands Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work environment is indoor and outdoor in all kinds of weather conditions. May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds. Work may routinely require walking, standing, crawling or stooping. Hazards include confined spaces, underground lines, and equipment construction hazards. May be required to work at heights in excess of 20 feet when repairing ceiling or parking lot lights. May be called in after hours to make emergency repairs to parks facilities. Work Authorization All applicants must establish employment authorization and identity at the time of hire.
