Location: Houston, TX

Salary: $90-140k DOE

Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Automation and Controls Engineer to design, program, and commission industrial control systems that automate manufacturing processes. The role focuses on PLC and HMI development, control panel and schematic design, system integration using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell and Siemens platforms, and on-site commissioning and troubleshooting to ensure safe, reliable operation and meet project delivery milestones.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC and HMI programs using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell and Siemens platforms (e.g., RSLogix/Studio 5000, TIA Portal).
• Create and review electrical control schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts using AutoCAD and SolidWorks for control hardware and enclosures.
• Configure and integrate industrial networks and communications (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus and other fieldbus protocols).
• Troubleshoot, debug and optimize control systems and field devices during design, commissioning and production ramp-up.
• Collaborate with mechanical, process and project engineering teams to ensure seamless system integration and meet performance targets.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation: functional specifications, I/O lists, control narratives, user manuals and as-built drawings.
• Apply electrical and control safety standards and best practices, participate in risk assessments and ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support project planning, cost estimates and schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience in industrial automation and controls engineering with PLC/HMI programming and commissioning experience.
• Proven experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell and Siemens controllers and HMI platforms (Studio 5000, RSLogix, TIA Portal, FactoryTalk/PanelView preferred).
• Strong skills in CAD tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks for control schematics and panel design.
• Hands-on experience with commissioning, FAT/SAT procedures, system integration and field troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus) and experience configuring networks and HMIs.
• Familiarity with electrical standards, control panel build practices, wiring and I/O interfacing.
