Classification: Specialized Program Assistant Minimum Qualifications: Education : Certification required Certification : ASE or Michigan Automotive Technician Certification Experience : Minimum two years of experience in the Auto Industry; previous experience working with high school students is preferred Skills : Ability to work with a diverse population of students Good listening and communication skills Ability to follow directions and work autonomously Strong organizational skills Basic familiarity with industry tools and equipment Basic mechanical aptitude Ability to stay calm in a stressful situation Familiarity with auto shop tools/machines, settings, and set-up Ability to troubleshoot auto issues based on visual inspection Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on tools/machines Desire to work with both large and small groups of students as a mentor and guide Safety Oriented Essential Job Functions: Assist the lead instructor with lesson plan implementation and classroom activities. Support student s in classroom and hands-on learning experiences related to the auto industry. Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students needing extra help with academic and technical skills. Help prepare materials and equipment for daily class activities and practical demonstrations. Monitor and maintain a safe and supportive classroom and lab environment. Aid in the supervision of students during clinical practice and fieldwork. Assist with administrative tasks, including - record-keeping and classroom management. Valid driver’s license required. Terms of Employment : As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education. Position is open until filled.
