Independently performs detailed phases of design engineering work for a project of moderate size and complexity to design assignments that satisfy the requirements of building designs in accordance with applicable governing codes. This requires the application of standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria where the scope is already outlined in the form of contract drawings, specifications, one-line drawings and component estimates derived. Competent in all conventional aspects of design engineering and be capable of planning and conducting tasks requiring independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Develops designs that require innovation and ingenuity. Work performed with minimal supervision; has considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. Requirements
- Requires a 4-year engineering degree and typically 8-11 years' related experience.
- Professional registration is required at this level.
- Candidate must be cognizant of the capabilities and limitations of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment to effectively direct their use for diverse engineering assignments.
- Maintain current knowledge of ASHRAE Standards, Building Energy Efficiency Codes and Life Safety Codes.
- Must apply Codes requirements for design and construction procedures to meet changing priorities and industry trends.
