ABOUT HOMEWARD PIKES PEAK (HPP) Homeward Pikes Peak empowers individuals and families to access stable housing, increase mental health, sobriety, and economic stability. We create opportunities for individuals and families to restore dignity through treatment and recovery programs, mental health services, and housing‑first initiatives. All our programs offer case management to help our clients succeed. SUMMARY The Director of Development provides strategic leadership for Homeward Pikes Peak’s fundraising, donor engagement, grant development, communications, marketing, and community relations. Working closely with the CEO, Leadership Team, Board of Directors, donors, and community partners, the Director develops and implements comprehensive strategies to increase philanthropic support, strengthen organizational visibility, cultivate meaningful relationships, and advance Homeward Pikes Peak’s mission through compelling storytelling and engagement. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Community Relations & External Engagement Serve as a primary ambassador and representative for Homeward Pikes Peak by building, cultivating, and maintaining strategic relationships with donors, corporate partners, foundations, civic organizations, government agencies, and community stakeholders to increase community awareness, strengthen partnerships, and inspire philanthropic investment. Collaborate with the CEO and Board of Directors to cultivate and leverage strategic partnerships with community leaders, businesses, and organizations to boost visibility, secure sponsorships, and drive philanthropic support, volunteerism, and mission‑aligned collaboration. Major Gifts & Individual Philanthropy Prepare for individual and corporate donor meetings, including donor profile, donor research, and meeting preparation. Manage gift acknowledgment letters, Thank You notes, New Donor letters, Anniversary Cards, and make Thank You calls, etc. Manage the donor/contacts database and compile and maintain mailing lists related to fundraising. Support fundraising research activities and generate development reports from databases (sponsors, major donors, individuals, lapsed donors, etc.). Grant Strategy and Institutional Funding Formulate and implement a diversified institutional funding strategy while crafting compelling, data‑driven narratives for grant proposals to secure foundational and corporate support. Prospect Research: Research, identify and steward private foundations and public grant opportunities. Proposal Oversight: Coordinate all internal activities and edit grant applications; manage and track grant writing (contractual or in‑house) activities. Coordinate with finance and other departments to collect and use all materials for a complete grant application. Compliance Tracking of incoming grants and sponsorships and coordinate with finance on proper recording and program staff for proper documentation and reporting timelines. Manage grant awards and work with program directors to track data and timely report submissions. Work with the finance director and CEO to project grant and donor income. Event Leadership Develop and lead the organization’s annual fundraising events and donor engagement activities from concept through evaluation. Includes: sponsorship development, underwriting, ticket sales, auctions, paddle raises, and other revenue‑generating opportunities. Direct event planning, budgeting, coordination, marketing, vendor management, volunteer coordination, and execution to ensure exceptional donor experiences. Cultivate and steward event sponsors, corporate partners, donors, and community supporters before, during, and after events. Solicit and manage in‑kind donations, sponsorships, and vendor partnerships that support organizational and event needs. Lead monthly event committee meetings, maintaining positive relationships with members. Evaluate event outcomes and recommend strategies to increase donor engagement, sponsorship revenue, and return on investment. Serve as event director, making sure the event runs smoothly. Prepare run of show and communicate the plans with all lead participants. Organizational Communications Work with the CEO and the leadership team to develop messaging that highlights the outcomes and impact of HPP in our community. Work with consultants or volunteers as needed to execute. Write appeals to donors, a monthly newsletter, special correspondence to stakeholders, donors’ annual report, and presentation materials. Maintain print, digital, and social media communication messaging and all assets/materials and maintain consistent messaging and voice. Photograph or work with program teams to obtain photographs and write and design impact stories for social media posts. Write press releases and media communications. Ensure consistent organizational voice and brand standards. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Must embrace the mission of Homeward Pikes Peak. Knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising. Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members, and other volunteers. Desire and ability to be an initiative‑taker and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls. Excellent organizational skills and follow‑through on tasks and goals. Demonstrate a professional presence, self‑confidence, common sense, and good listening ability. Flexibility to work longer hours, evenings, and weekends as needed. Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and work styles. Experience with trauma‑informed storytelling preferred but not required. Cultural humility and ability to communicate respectfully with diverse communities. Technical proficiency with social media platforms, website content management, analytics tools, and digital communication systems. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, Nonprofit Management, or related field. 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, communications, development support, or mission‑driven storytelling. Firsthand experience developing and managing digital content for websites, social media platforms, and email campaigns. Demonstrated proficiency with computer software: MS Office Suite, Canva, and social media platforms (Meta, LinkedIn, YouTube). Adobe Acrobat Pro desired. Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging content. Strong attention to detail, editorial rigor, and understanding of style, grammar, and tone. Valid Colorado driver’s license, clean driving record, and must carry personal vehicle insurance. BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION Medical, Dental & Vision – employer pays 55% of premium. Life, accidental death and dismemberment, and short‑term disability insurance – employer pays 100%. 401k – employer match is 2%. 18 days of vacation for years 0‑5 accruing annually. 6 days of paid sick leave accruing annually. 6 paid holidays + 4 floating holidays. Employee Assistance Plan – employer pays 100%. The pay range for this position is $85,000 – $95,000.
