Cashiers are usually the first face you see when you come into the store so first impressions are important. It means something to the customer to be greeted in a welcoming and friendly manner. Requirements/Responsibilities Scanning items: Cashiers scan each item a customer wants to purchase, using a barcode scanner or manually entering the item's code. Making sure not to miss items in the bottom of buggy and remembering to tag items too big to be bagged with a paid label. Processing payments, including cash, credit or debit cards, and checks. They should be able to count change accurately and provide receipts to customers. Handling returns and exchanges: If a customer wants to return or exchange an item, the cashier should process the request according to store policies and with manager approval. Keeping the register area clean and organized: Cashiers are responsible for keeping their work area clean and organized, including the cash register, scanner, and bags. Resolving customer complaints: If a customer has a problem or complaint, the cashier should try to resolve it quickly and courteously, or refer the customer to a supervisor if necessary.
