R&D Engineering Technician

Job Description: The Engineering Technician I is responsible for providing entry-level technical support for engineering, testing, manufacturing, and product development activities. This role contributes to organizational objectives by assisting with equipment setup, product testing, documentation, and assembly activities. The position works under close supervision while developing technical skills and knowledge of HVAC systems, manufacturing processes, and engineering standards. This role serves as a foundation for building technical expertise and supporting product quality, innovation, and operational excellence.

Primary Duties:

  • Assist with setup, operation, and maintenance of testing equipment and laboratory systems.
  • Support assembly of HVAC components, prototypes, and test fixtures according to established procedures and instructions.
  • Record test data accurately and maintain technical documentation and records.
  • Assist engineering and technical staff with product testing, inspections, and validation activities.
  • Perform routine measurements, inspections, and evaluations using basic testing and measurement equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts by gathering data and assisting with problem identification.
  • Follow engineering procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards during all activities.
  • Maintain work areas, tools, and equipment in a clean and organized manner.
  • Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist with prototype builds and engineering evaluations.
  • Support inventory management of lab supplies, tools, and test equipment.
  • Participate in technical training and development opportunities.
  • Assist with preparation of reports, documentation, and engineering records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) with technical coursework, certification, or training in HVAC, electronics, manufacturing technology, mechanical systems, or a related field;
  • 0+ years of experience in a technical, manufacturing, or engineering support role,
  • Or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred:

  • Technical or vocational education in a related field.
  • Exposure to HVAC systems, manufacturing operations, or engineering laboratories.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, work instructions, and verbal directions.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, measurement devices, and basic testing equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, processes, and equipment.

Essential and Physical Functions:

  • Ability to follow technical instructions and perform routine tasks accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to identify and communicate basic issues or discrepancies.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Manual dexterity for handling tools, equipment, and small components.
  • Visual acuity for inspecting parts, assemblies, and test results.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to work safely around machinery, equipment, and testing systems.

Work Environment:

  • Perform work primarily in laboratory, manufacturing, and testing environments.
  • Regular exposure to production equipment, HVAC systems, and testing equipment.
  • Exposure to noise, temperature variations, dust, and industrial conditions.
  • Frequent interaction with engineers, technicians, and production personnel.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • This role is classified as a Safety Sensitive Position, requiring adherence to all safety protocols to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
