Building And Grounds Maintenance WorkerPOSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision performs work of routine difficulty in building and grounds maintenance including park facilities, performs related work as required.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Maintains buildings, grounds and building equipment in good conditionInspects buildings and makes necessary repairs to structures and equipment such as painting interior and exterior surfaces, making minor carpentry repairs, making plaster and plumbing repairs and adjusting and maintaining heating and cooling equipmentMaintains exterior grounds, sidewalks and parking lots in clean condition, raking leaves, removing snow and ice, and spreading salt when necessaryRepairs, paints and replaces fencing around athletic fields and parksRepairs, replaces or installs bleachers and players' benchesMaintains athletic fields by aerating, spreading turf conditioner and fertilizer, and mowing when necessaryLays out athletic fields (e.g., football, soccer, softball and baseball fields) by measuring, setting stakes and painting linesSets up and takes down goal posts, portable bleachers, nets, wind screens, etc., at various athletic facilitiesRepairs, paints and makes new supports for park picnic tables and benchesRepairs desks, tables, chairs and other related itemsInstalls electrical fixtures such as switches, receptacles, lighting fixtures and fuse boxesPerforms minor maintenance and adjustments on elevatorsReplaces and installs park playground equipment, swings, slides, etc.Does minor sheet metal workKeeps drinking fountains and comfort station facilities in good repairLoads and unloads materialsMoves furniture and office equipmentInspects buildings for damage and vandalismMay assist journeyman in major repairsPerforms weekly lubrication of computer mechanical systemsMaintains records as needed.REQUIRED KNOWLEGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Methods, practices and techniques of building and grounds maintenanceAthletic field maintenanceEquipment, tools and materials used in the workSafe work practices; some knowledge ofComputer system maintenance techniques.Skill in:The use of small tools and equipmentUnderstanding and following oral and written instructions.REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS:Graduation from high school or General Educational Development (GED) Tests equivalencyTwo (2) years of building maintenance or related experience.Must possess a valid driver's licensePositions assigned to the Division of Parks and Recreation, a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without restrictions as to air brakes must be obtained within probationary period.PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION:For positions assigned to the Division of Parks and Recreation experience in turf grass or athletic field maintenance is preferred.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described within this job description must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
