Responsibilities Job PurposeThe Reliability Engineer provides subject matter expertise and direction for the Pattern operational fleet mechanical reliability and condition monitoring programs. Specifically, this role requires detailed understanding of wind turbine mechanical systems and experience performing advanced vibration analysis of these systems. The Engineer will be responsible for daily monitoring, collaborating with sites to optimize remaining useful life of components, continuously improving the condition monitoring program capabilities, investigating equipment failures, performing root cause assessments, and deploying solutions to improve component reliability.Key AccountabilitiesThe key responsibilities will include the following:Investigate mechanical equipment failures on Pattern’s operational assets, perform root cause assessments, and determine containment and correction actions to prevent future failures.Oversee and provide project management support to the Original Equipment Manufacturers with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for reliability related issues.Perform vibration analysis and develop necessary methods for the early detection of component failures and damages on wind turbine components. Monitor system data flow health and resolve issues to ensure high system availability and performance.Act as Pattern’s subject matter expert for wind turbine condition based and predictive based maintenance to ensure the latest developments in hardware, software and analysis methodologies are applied.Work cooperatively with other discipline engineering leaders in the group to ensure a holistic approach to wind turbines and solar reliability.Provide technical support for the operations field teams with inspection guidance, turbine troubleshooting and operational status assessment. Qualifications EDUCATION/Experience/Qualifications Required Educational ExperienceA Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or similar Engineering degree is required as a minimum. Master’s degree preferred.Work Experience3-5 years or more experience as a mechanical reliability engineer and/or vibration condition monitoring engineer in wind industry.Preferred experience utilizing fleetMONITOR condition monitoring software or required experience with other diagnostics software packages for wind turbine vibration data.Experience with Siemens, GE, or other wind OEM hardware and softwareAdditional QualificationsMust be able to climb modern wind turbine without a lift or climb assistStrong technical capabilities and a creative, curious, self-driven work ethicAbility to work well in and/or lead cross functional teams with little supervision or oversightDesire to work in the field in challenging environments to collect data for RCA or system studiesAbility to travel (Up to 20% travel)Technical SkillsAbility to perform advanced mathematical calculations, signal processing, and analysis of vibration data using available industry vibration software packages.Familiarity with programming in Python, R, MATLAB, or similar and ability to apply knowledge toward improving fleet performance and reliabilityKnowledge of SCADA data and principles of databases and historians, including experience with Structured Query LanguageAbility to turn detailed vibration assessment into comprehensible and actionable maintenance actions for the operations team.Ability to simply and effectively communicate complex conceptsAbility to read and understand plans, specifications, drawings, and documents relating to engineering and construction, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and wiring diagramsAbility to quickly assess emergency situations and requirements to develop and implement appropriate action plansAbility to work around energized equipment under proper lock-out, tag-out, and other safety proceduresAbility to occasionally perform physical requirements including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing at project locations in order to inspect equipment or collect informationThe expected starting pay range for this role is $90,000 - $120,000 USD. This range is an estimate, and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
