About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Biomedical Research Engineer to support biomedical, neuroscience, clinical research, and human-performance initiatives. This position will contribute to research software, data-collection systems, analytical workflows, and technical reporting.
The successful candidate will work with researchers, engineers, clinicians, and operational teams to help ensure that research technologies and data processes are reliable, well documented, secure, and responsive to project needs. This role offers opportunities to gain experience across scientific computing, research technology, data engineering, and laboratory operations.

What You'll Do
- Support the development, testing, and maintenance of software used for cognitive, behavioral, physiological, and human-performance research.
- Assist with research data collection involving sensors, physiological systems, motion-capture equipment, wearable devices, and related technologies.
- Set up, calibrate, test, and troubleshoot research software, hardware, and data-collection systems.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automated workflows using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools.
- Support data pipelines for data ingestion, processing, validation, analysis, and reporting.
- Work with structured, semi-structured, and time-series data from research systems, devices, databases, files, and cloud-based platforms.
- Perform data-quality checks and help investigate missing, inconsistent, or anomalous data.
- Prepare analytical datasets, figures, dashboards, recurring reports, and other research deliverables.
- Maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, data dictionaries, and training materials.
- Provide technical guidance, demonstrations, and training to research staff and system users.
- Use version control and participate in software testing, code review, and quality-assurance activities.
- Follow established practices for handling sensitive biomedical, clinical, and research data, including applicable privacy, security, access-control, and data-governance requirements.
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements, troubleshoot issues, and support project deliverables.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related technical field.
- A minimum of one (1) year of combined experience in the following:
- Programming, data analysis, scientific computing, research technology, laboratory engineering, or a related field.
- Experience supporting biomedical, clinical, neuroscience, human-performance, or related research.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of MATLAB, Python, or another scientific-computing environment.
- Ability to organize, analyze, and troubleshoot complex technical information.
- Understanding of software-development, data-quality, testing, and technical-documentation practices.
- Ability to work with research data obtained from devices, files, databases, application programming interfaces, and other technical systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and adapt to changing project requirements.
- Familiarity with cognitive or behavioral assessment software, including MATLAB Psychtoolbox or similar tools.
- Familiarity with physiological signals, biomechanics, motion capture, eye tracking, wearable technologies, or other sensor-generated data.
- Experience with SQL, relational databases, cloud platforms, data pipelines, dashboards, or automated reporting.
- Familiarity with Git or another version-control system.
- Familiarity with research-data privacy, security, quality, or governance practices.
