Design Lead

Job Summary Create customers for life, one exceptional experience at a time by executing the IHD process to create comfortable and functional environments that meet client lifestyles and tastes. Offer customers professional design assistance and maintain a beautifully displayed showroom. Key Responsibilities Achieve or exceed daily and monthly store GOAL through team selling. Execute the Comfort Compass process with every customer. Maintain and surpass the store’s minimum average ticket, DPC, IH, and TLA percentages. Assist consumers daily via team selling, including drive‑bys, third‑party endorsements, and sketching. Support fabric and/or leather and TLA selections with consumers. Encourage in‑home design consultations and help overcome objections to close sales. Engage with Sales Manager, Sales Lead, District Sales Manager, Director of Design, and President of Sales for team selling culture. Review daily goal analysis and current sales stats. Ensure comfort guides are completed with a sketch of the consumer’s room. Enter prospect information daily into the CRM (Door Counts / Trackwell). Submit design forms to the Director of Design and participate in training, coaching, and meetings. Maintain the appearance of the store, stockroom, break room, and vignettes. Complete LMS training and maintain a personal training calendar. Be an expert user of LZB’s 3D Room Planner. Maintain accurate notes in the CRM and update action items after each contact. Provide customers with both an as‑purchased and as‑designed mood board. Send personalized thank‑you cards to IHD clients. Review past IHD projects for new opportunities and communicate with clients regularly. Maintain a portfolio of IHD projects and create a Design Lead bio. Be an expert in all upholstery categories, TLA and case goods, fabric and leather, and custom order options. Be an expert in the selling process (PSS), price lists, and product catalogs. Train new hires in the IHD process within their first 30 days and lead monthly Saturday morning training. Assist the Sales Consultant team with weekly training and one‑on‑one coaching. Understand and follow all company policies and procedures, including attendance, clock‑in/out, and safety rules. Ensure proper documentation for open sales, pick‑ups, deliveries, and weekly ISTs. Update customer accounts and secure company assets, receipts, and cash. Represent La‑Z‑Boy in all customer interactions regarding sales, return policy, warranty, and service. Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill the role’s responsibilities. Minimum Requirements Excellent communication skills and collaboration ability. Proficiency in interior design using 2D and 3D floor planning software. Strong product knowledge and ability to explain storyboards. Creative flair, eye for quality, and awareness of design trends. High professional standard, sound judgment, initiative, and ethics. Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and acceptable automobile insurance. Availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Can work independently with minimal supervision. Minimum 3years of experience in furniture retail or interior design. Bachelor of Interior Design, BA, BS or BFA; ASID, CQRID, or IDS certification preferred. Proficient with floor planning software (2D and 3D). Physical Demands / Work Environment Frequent computer use and desk work with the ability to sit or stand for extended periods; occasional bending, squatting, and kneeling. Requires manual dexterity and vision for typing, handling paperwork, and operating office equipment.
