Public Health Research Analyst

Job Summary We are seeking a Public Health Research Analyst to join our team. The role focuses on meticulous data quality for research projects related to the California Safety‑Net Population Health Management Initiative (PHMI) and other health services and public‑health research projects led by clinical investigators across the Section for General Internal Medicine. Responsibilities Maintain close, collaborative relationships with principal investigators, administrative team, and research staff to effectively manage research studies. Oversee all data quality aspects of research studies, including development and implementation of regular data quality and assurance checks. Perform quality assurance audits and produce summary reports for internal staff and external stakeholders. Provide data quality and data collection recommendations, including recommendation of data collection tools to improve data integrity. Conduct data checks, cleaning, and variable creation to ensure integrity and prepare data sets for analysis. Collaborate with external partners to implement data collection protocols and maintain data collection tools (e.g., REDCap). Develop and implement protocols to streamline and standardize data collection, storage, and processing across studies and datasets. Prepare analytic datasets for research recruitment, analyses, and data abstractions, including preliminary descriptive statistics. Maintain code library and documentation. Provide professional support to staff or faculty in applying data science principles in manipulation, statistical applications, programming, analysis, and modeling. Create documentation for projects, such as procedural manuals, protocol worksheets, codebooks, questionnaires, progress reports, addendums, and adverse event reports. Facilitate execution of data usage agreements (DUA) and data quality plans for data sharing with internal and external partners. Demonstrate proficiency with clinical and research‑related computer programs. Attend multidisciplinary conferences and workshops. Analyze moderately complex data sets for extraction and purposeful use of applicable information. Provide technical and administrative support for research projects, including analysis and maintenance of data and specimens. Conduct literature reviews and assist with preparation of reports, manuscripts, and related documents. Perform other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications College or university degree in a related field. Less than 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, data science, public policy, public health, or a similar field. Experience maintaining and documenting source code for reproducibility of research and service projects. Background in biostatistics within clinical or public health research settings. Proficiency with statistical analysis software packages such as SAS, Stata, or R. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Ability to work on multiple projects, set priorities independently, meet deadlines, and adhere to confidentiality protocols. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Flexibility, creativity, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to collaborate with colleagues from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.
