Special Procedures Tech

Overview Special Procedures Tech position in the Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant department. Responsible for diagnostic imaging equipment to produce contrast-enhanced radiographs of blood vessels to aid physician in diagnosis and treatment. Operates fluoroscope to view the guide wire or catheter through blood vessels to the area of interest. Prepares and injects contrast media as directed by the physician, monitors imaging, adjusts density and contrast for optimum exposure, and starts filming sequence. Ensures required supplies are available and in working order. Essential Job Functions Demonstrates competence in all areas of special procedures: positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, technical factors and surgical assistance. Provides care to pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and adult patients with appropriate knowledge and skills. Ensures efficient workflow in the Special Procedures Department by starting patient flow on time and minimizing room turnaround time. Manages the computer system (scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, proper completion of exams, capture charges). Follows infection control/universal precautions; maintains order and cleanliness; practices sterile technique and prevents cross-contamination. Care and maintenance of existing IVs; may inject specific medications under physician direction. Additional Job Functions May have access to radiopharmaceuticals, contrast agents, and other non-controlled medications as appropriate to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Integrates current scientific knowledge and technology into work practices; participates in orientation and training of new employees and students; participates in continuing education; completes Job Skills/Competency Checklist annually. Maintains professionalism and effective communication with peers, medical personnel, and customers; keeps a clean, stocked, and orderly work area. Facilitates and participates in Radiology CQI monitoring; assists in data collection, review, and revision of CQI program to comply with accrediting agencies and hospital goals. Supports the mission and demonstrates excellent customer service. Adheres to safety policies and uses appropriate safety equipment; reports unsafe conditions; familiar with safety features of equipment; consults supervisors if unsure of safe procedures. Adheres to Code of Conduct and reports activities that violate laws, regulations, or the Code. Completes other duties as assigned. Qualifications Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
