Mechanical Superintendent

POSITION SUMMARYThe HVAC Superintendent is a critical field leadership position and is foundational to project success and safety. This role is responsible for overseeing HVAC and mechanical construction activities in the field, providing leadership to field foremen and trade partners, and ensuring successful completion of HVAC work in alignment with project schedule, quality, safety, and budget goals in the Phoenix, AZ area.The HVAC Superintendent works closely with the Project Manager and other field leadership to support timely, coordinated, and high-quality completion of the construction process. This role is intended for an experienced mechanical field leader who can independently lead complex HVAC scopes with limited oversight with labor and material resources.RESPONSIBILITIESAssist Estimating with bidding opportunities and preconstruction services for HVAC and mechanical scopesAssist the Project Manager in development of the Chart of Accounts for HVAC and mechanical workAssist in development of detailed CPM schedules with emphasis on HVAC procurement, installation, startup, and turnover milestonesAssist in development of detailed scope of work for HVAC and mechanical systemsDevelop and maintain project site logistics plans related to HVAC equipment deliveries, material staging, crane picks, and installation sequencingMaintain a thorough understanding of contract documents, mechanical drawings, specifications, coordination drawings, and project requirementsManage McCarthy’s labor force and/or coordinate trade foremen to achieve optimum performance on HVAC scopesReview and understand material budgets and provide support for equipment purchases.Monitor project costs, labor productivity, and installation performance; identify areas for improvementProvide leadership in the quality process for HVAC systems, including layout, installation, testing, balancing, startup, and commissioning readinessProvide leadership in safety and accident prevention programs for all HVAC and mechanical field activitiesDocument daily construction activities related to HVAC progress, manpower, deliveries, issues, and inspectionsChair or support weekly subcontractor and trade coordination meetings with focus on HVAC interfaces and sequencingIssue and maintain short-term schedules for HVAC work activitiesAssist Project Engineers in the shop drawing and submittal process for HVAC equipment, controls, and related materialsVerify that as-built drawings and field markups for HVAC systems are kept currentImplement all applicable safety programs and EEO/Affirmative Action programsCoordinate HVAC work with other trades including electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and general trades to reduce conflicts and maintain production flowLead field execution for ductwork, piping, equipment setting, controls coordination, startup activities, and final turnover of HVAC systemsSupport inspections, testing requirements, punch list completion, and owner turnover documentation for HVAC systemsHelp identify and resolve field issues related to constructability, installation sequence, manpower planning, and system completionQUALIFICATIONSMinimum of 7 years of applicable field leadership experienceSignificant experience in HVAC, mechanical, or MEP construction field operationsExperience with relevant large-scale commercial or industrial projectsPrevious experience directing and coordinating HVAC/mechanical tradesStrong knowledge of HVAC systems, construction principles, field practices, and sequencing requirementsExperience leading installation of ductwork, piping, mechanical equipment, and related HVAC systemsSelf-perform construction management experience highly preferredPrevious experience working closely with Project Management teams through successful completion of project phasesAbility to read and interpret plans, specifications, shop drawings, and coordination documentsStrong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and production performancePREFERREDExperience with self-perform mechanical or HVAC workExperience coordinating startup, testing, balancing, commissioning, and turnover processesExperience working in occupied facilities, complex phasing environments, or technically challenging mechanical projectsFamiliarity with field technology, scheduling tools, and construction documentation platformsStrong field presence and ability to lead crews and foremen effectivelyAbility to coordinate across multiple trades and maintain schedule commitmentsConsistent focus on safety, quality, planning, and accountabilityAbility to anticipate issues, solve problems in the field, and drive work to completionADDITIONALPrimarily focused in Arizona but travel outside of state may be requiredMcCarthy is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, including disability and protected veteran status.NOTICE TO EXTERNAL SEARCH FIRMS:McCarthy’s Talent Acquisition Team is theonly authorized representativepermitted to engage with external search firms, staffing agencies, or other third-party recruiting partners.
