Direct Support Professional (DSP) Job Description

Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides person‐centered support to individuals with developmental disabilities, promoting independence, safety, dignity, and meaningful community participation.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks.
• Support individuals in community outings, appointments, recreational activities, and skill‐building opportunities.
• Implement and follow Individual Plans (IP/PCP) and document progress, observations, and incidents accurately.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment in accordance with DDA, OHCQ, and agency policies.
• Administer medications as authorized and follow all health and safety protocols.
• Encourage independence by teaching daily living skills, communication skills, and positive coping strategies.
• Provide transportation as needed and ensure safe travel to appointments and activities.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, families, and other professionals.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies or behavioral incidents using approved procedures.
• Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and respect in all interactions.

Qualifications

• Minimum age: 18
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license preferred
• Ability to pass background checks and required trainings
• Compassionate, patient, and committed to supporting individuals with disabilities
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
