Landlord Tenant Attorney

Our client, a private real estate investment and property management company in NYC, is seeking an experienced Landlord-Tenant Attorney to join its in-house legal team. This is a hands-on position focused on both commercial and residential landlord-tenant matters , with substantial responsibility for managing disputes and representing the company in court.

The attorney will report directly to the General Counsel and will have the opportunity to take ownership of a broad landlord-tenant docket while working in a stable, professional in-house environment.

Responsibilities

• Handle a broad range of commercial and residential landlord-tenant matters .


• Advise the company on landlord-tenant issues and applicable New York rent regulations .


• Draft pleadings, motions, legal correspondence, memoranda, and other litigation documents.


• Appear in court and advocate on behalf of the client.


• Argue motions and independently handle landlord-tenant proceedings.


• Handle matters through litigation and, where appropriate, trial .


• Work closely with the General Counsel and internal stakeholders regarding legal strategy and risk.


• Monitor developments in New York landlord-tenant law and rent regulations and advise the business accordingly.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of relevant landlord-tenant experience.


• Substantial experience handling commercial and/or residential landlord-tenant matters.


• Strong knowledge of New York landlord-tenant law and rent regulations .


• Comfortable appearing in court and independently managing proceedings.


• Demonstrated experience arguing motions .


• Trial experience strongly preferred.


• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.


• Strong judgment and ability to manage matters independently.


• New York bar admission required.

Compensation & Location

• Base salary up to $250,000 , depending on experience


• Discretionary bonus


• Fully in-office, 5 days per week


• Midtown Manhattan office


• Typical hours are approximately 9:00 AM–6:00 PM


• Reports directly to the General Counsel
