POSITION SUMMARY

This role is an Hourly - Direct Labor position responsible for operating and supporting a coating process using Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and control points. Operators must produce required product volumes while ensuring EHS and Quality requirements are met. Teamwork with Operations Support, Engineering, Maintenance, and Management is essential. Overtime, travel for training, and progression opportunities are part of the role. M-F 8 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform complex multilevel tasks from procedures and work instructions. Maintain timely and accurate record keeping using digital and handwritten tools. Maintain 100% compliance with PPE requirements during equipment operation. Participate in all Cpex initiatives introduced into the process cell. Operate within a fixed process environment with strong FAA, AS 9100 compliance. Identify and communicate non-standard situations including EHS and product integrity concerns. Follow best practice guidelines for product and raw material handling in a high‑vacuum coating environment. Complete periodic TPM activities (checklists) for assigned processes and equipment. Review own work for completeness and quality compliance (e.g., electronic data logs, critical process outputs). Operate support equipment for pre/post coating (parts washers, high‑temperature ovens, furnaces). Assist coater operators with part loading/unloading and chamber operations. Maintain metal coating fixtures, including visual verification and residual coating removal. Support standard rebuild and material loading tasks (Turn Arounds). Keep accurate time records per site Direct Labor standards. Cross‑train in other coating process areas as needed. Complete training program requirements for each process prior to assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED. At least 2 years’ experience in a production manufacturing environment. Additional education, training, certifications, or licenses may supersede experience. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports in digital or handwritten formats. Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and co‑workers. Perform basic mathematical functions with decimals, fractions, or percentages. Convert numbers from scientific notation to decimal form. Convert units of measurement between English and Metric systems. Basic understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and energy is a plus. Apply common sense to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions. Handle problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations. Mechanically inclined, able to work hands‑on with little supervision. Team player, with an open attitude toward changes to scope and procedures. May be required to operate a forklift (training provided).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Manual dexterity for assembling small components with hand/pneumatic tools. Repetitive motions such as turning a wrench or cutting wire. Lift 35 lbs. to waist level; 35 lbs. to shoulder level; 35 lbs. on shop floor. Perform tasks wearing a SAR while handling hazardous materials. Meet vision criteria for close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, color, and focus adjustment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Exposure to extreme heat, sharp objects, and moving mechanical parts; PPE, machine guarding, and interlocks are essential. Potential hazards include respiratory and skin irritants, asphyxiation, fall hazards, and electrical hazards. Controlled temperature and humidity for most tasks; some areas may be wet or humid. Moderate noise levels; hearing protection required in high‑noise areas. EB‑PVD Coater is a source of ionizing radiation; shielding keeps exposure below background levels. Radiation monitors and training required. Standard shop floor PPE includes eye protection and steel‑toed shoes; additional requirements may apply. This position may require work hours outside of the regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Non‑exempt employees will receive overtime pay in accordance with applicable laws. The salary range reflects a broad spectrum of experience levels. Compensation is determined by experience, education, certifications, job‑related skills, internal equity, and market conditions.
