Job Information Job Title: Tool Maker C Job Code: 36069 Job Location: Salt Lake City, Utah Job Schedule: 9/80 (employee works 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours – and has every other Friday off) Job Description A Tool Maker C is an experienced‑level professional with proficiency in machining and fabrication. Tool makers fabricate, build, handle, repair and integrate complex parts, assemblies and machines used in engineering prototypes, one‑of‑a‑kind products or low‑volume manufacturing. They design and fabricate manufacturing assembly aids and tooling, work from blueprints, process sheets and sketches, cut and shape metal to precision dimensions, verify quality against control procedures, and interface with engineers to optimize assembly processes for manufacturability. Tasks include fabrication (assembly, sawing, drilling, bending, grinding, deburring, labeling), sheet metal forming, milling (CNC and manual), lathe turning (CNC and manual), laser cutting, use of precision measuring equipment (CMM, calipers, micrometers, height gauges), EDM, welding, chemical processing, 3D printing, overhead crane operation and machine maintenance. Essential Functions Repair damaged parts and assemblies to bring them back into conformance with drawing requirements. Fabricate, modify, and assemble parts as defined by engineering drawings, CAD files, and sketches. Plan, layout, set up, and operate sheet metal fabrication equipment. Machine and fabricate various materials (aluminum, steel, stainless‑steel, brass, copper). Set up and operate manufacturing and fabrication equipment as specified. Assess workload across work centers and prioritize work according to business needs and supervisor direction. Apply and interpret GD&T tolerances. Calculate and verify dimensions against tolerances using mathematical knowledge and instruments. Aid engineering in creating, modifying, and updating fixtures and tooling. Record all work operations, non‑conformances, and input specifications into computer‑based programs. Perform preventive maintenance on machines. Diagnose tooling and equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs or replacements. Maintain the work area and machine shop to 5S + 1 standards. Complete all required company training promptly. Provide overtime support (extended hours, weekends, holidays) as needed. Follow company policies and procedures. Train team members on job responsibilities as needed. Participate in continuous improvement projects to refine quality, cost, and schedule. Other responsibilities as assigned by management. Required Qualifications (one of the following) High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience. Associate’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Preferred Additional Skills 2+ years of recent experience in welding aluminum and steels. 2+ years of recent experience in GD&T application. 2+ years of recent experience in CMM inspection methods (CALYPSO software). 2+ years of recent experience operating CNC machines. 2+ years of recent experience reading and modifying G‑code. 2+ years of recent experience adjusting feeds and speeds. 2+ years of recent experience in CNC programming (MasterCAM 3/4/5‑Axis). 2+ years of recent experience in CAD (Siemens NX). Proficient knowledge and skills on the job responsibilities listed above. Flexibility to receive on‑the‑job training that may require schedule adjustments. Experience with intricate tasks requiring experienced‑level knowledge, concepts, and techniques. Aptitude to work autonomously with limited supervision. Confidence to explain facts and practices related to the job area: audits, procedures, and best practices. Experience collaborating with a team to resolve assignments and problems.
