Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Cal OES has advertised in Sacramento County (JC 509648), Yolo County (JC 509661) and San Joaquin County (JC 509668). Job Overview Under the direction of the Deputy Chief, Fleet (Fire), the Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM) performs a wide variety of mechanical work. The incumbent constructs, repairs, and maintains automotive and heavy maintenance and construction equipment; may instruct and lead or direct the work of apprentices, help Service Assistants (Automotive), or other employees, inmates, wards, or resident workers; and do other related work. Incumbents in this position must be willing to work overtime. Requirements Incumbent must possess or obtain a valid California Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with Tank and Air Brake endorsements within six (6) months of appointment. These endorsements are required for the movement of certified equipment and vehicles. Maintaining a valid license with all required endorsements in a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions This position is Headquartered in Mather, Sacramento County. This position supports and manages the day-to-day business operations for Cal OES which is handled in an office location. This is not considered a hybrid telework position. Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position requires a valid Driver’s License (DL). Provide your DL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions. Employees may be required to report to work during emergencies outside normal hours and may be required to relocate to emergency sites. Travel requirements may be extensive in nature. Desirable Qualifications ASE Certification or Equivalent for the following: Vehicle Brakes, Commercial Air Brake Systems, Diagnostics, Hydraulic Pumps/Systems and Electrical Systems. 2 years of Diesel Motor Repair. 2 years of Heavy Diesel Equipment Repair and Fire Apparatus Repair. Tire dismount and install. CA Commercial A or B License with Tanker and Air Brake Endorsement.
