Electrical Technician

Our client is a growing heavy industrial manufacturing facility seeking Electrical Technicians at Levels I, II, and III. These positions are responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving a wide variety of electrical, automation, process control, and electro-mechanical systems in a high-volume production environment. Technicians will support critical production equipment while maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational excellence. The facility operates complex manufacturing systems involving motors, drives, PLCs, hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, and automated production equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and install industrial electrical and control systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on production equipment.
- Diagnose issues involving motors, drives, PLCs, sensors, instrumentation, and process controls.
- Support equipment startups, shutdowns, upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to maximize equipment uptime.
- Maintain compliance with all company safety policies, NFPA 70E standards, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, and cranes as required.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, reliability, and productivity.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Technical training in Industrial Electrical Technology, Electro-Mechanical Technology, or related field preferred.
- Experience in industrial maintenance, electrical construction, or manufacturing maintenance environments.
- Understanding of:
- Electrical troubleshooting fundamentals
- Motors, starters, transformers, and field devices
- Basic PLC operation and ladder logic concepts
- Industrial instrumentation and sensors
- Ability to use electrical test equipment including multimeters, ammeters, and diagnostic tools.
- Willingness to complete NFPA 70E and OSHA training requirements.
- 3+ years of industrial electrical maintenance experience preferred.
- Exposure to PLCs, VFDs, motors, electrical construction, and preventive maintenance programs.
- 3+ years of progressive heavy industrial electrical maintenance experience.
- NFPA 70E Qualified Electrical Worker certification or ability to obtain.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and automation systems independently.
- Experience modifying PLC ladder logic and adjusting drive parameters.
- Strong understanding of:
- Siemens PLC platforms
- HMI systems
- Industrial networking and controls
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Data collection and process monitoring systems
- Proficiency with advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis techniques.
- Experience working in steel, mining, cement, refinery, power generation, chemical processing, or other heavy industrial environments.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, Ignition, Wonderware, WinCC, or similar automation platforms.
- Advanced expertise in industrial automation, controls, and electrical systems.
- PLC programming experience using Siemens TIA Portal / STEP 7.
- Extensive experience with ABB drives and motor control systems.
- Strong understanding of:
- Regenerative systems
- Drive technology and power electronics
- Process control systems
- Advanced troubleshooting methodologies
- Ability to mentor and provide technical leadership to junior technicians.
- Experience leading projects, shutdowns, equipment upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proven ability to make critical decisions involving safety, production, quality, and equipment reliability.
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor to maintenance personnel.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts on complex equipment failures.
- Participate in planning and executing maintenance strategies.
- Act as a succession candidate for future supervisory opportunities.
- Demonstrate strong communication, conflict resolution, and team leadership skills.
- Heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to heat, noise, moving equipment, heights, confined spaces, and outdoor conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
- Multiple levels available based on experience.
- Clear advancement path from Technician I through Technician III.
