2nd Shift Supervisor

We're supporting a growing, fast paced machine shop with identifying a 2nd Shift Supervisor. Ideal candidates will have three or more years experience in supervising machinists, quality, and administrative personnel. Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards, strong communication skills, scheduling, identifying and closing training gaps, conflict resolution, developing team leads, and managing a staff of 10-20+ employees is highly preferred. This supervisor role is focused on leading people as a priority, while managing a faced paced and growing production machining schedule.

Position Summary

The 2nd Shift Production Supervisor oversees all manufacturing operations during the second shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production output. This role provides direct leadership to production teams, coordinates workflow, resolves issues in real time, and ensures compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and safety regulations. The supervisor plays a key role in meeting production goals, supporting continuous improvement, and maintaining a productive shift-to-shift handoff.

Key Responsibilities

Shift Leadership & Team Management

• Supervise and support production employees across assigned departments
• Assign daily tasks, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to work instructions
• Conduct shift start-up meetings, communicate priorities, and reinforce safety expectations
• Train and coach employees to improve skills, productivity, and quality awareness
• Address personnel issues, attendance, and performance concerns in coordination with company leadership

Production Execution

• Ensure production schedules are met by managing labor, materials, and equipment availability
• Monitor workflow and adjust staffing or processes to maintain throughput
• Troubleshoot production issues and coordinate with maintenance, engineering, and quality teams
• Verify that products meet specifications and escalate quality concerns promptly
• Maintain accurate production records, shift reports, and ERP/MRP data

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce all safety policies, PPE requirements, and safe work practices
• Conduct regular safety checks and ensure equipment is operated properly
• Support incident investigations and corrective actions
• Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready work environment (5S)

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance product quality
• Support Lean initiatives, Kaizen events, and process improvement projects
• Recommend changes to workflows, equipment, or training to improve shift performance

Cross-Shift & Cross-Functional Coordination

• Provide thorough shift handoff communication to 1st shift supervisors
• Collaborate with planning, quality, engineering, and maintenance to resolve issues
• Participate in daily production meetings and provide shift performance updates
• Occasional training or production meetings required during first shift hours

Qualifications

Required

• 3+ years of production or manufacturing experience
• 1-3 years of leadership or supervisory experience
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, safety practices, and quality standards
• Ability to read work instructions, production schedules, and basic technical documentation
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and basic computer applications
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Ability to lead a team independently during 2nd shift operations

Preferred

• Experience in machining, fabrication, assembly, or similar manufacturing environments
• Knowledgeable in ISO 9001 or other QMS frameworks
• Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Working Conditions

• On-site role in a machine shop environment
• 2nd shift schedule - 5pm to 4:30am M-F - weekends as needed or required
• Frequent standing, walking, and interaction with production equipment
• Regular collaboration with production, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams
• Occasional overtime based on production demands
