The Mental Health Association of Columbia-Greene Counties Inc. is looking to fill a per diem Community Based Youth Mentor position.

The Youth Mentor will work directly with clients ages 7 to 18 to provide mentoring and advocacy services. In addition to being a positive role model for clients, the Youth Mentor is expected to assist clients in the realization of short and long-term goals that can be pursued and accomplished throughout the mentor-client relationship. When necessary, the Youth Mentor will attend official meetings involving the client and institutions such as but not limited to: the Department of Social Services, the Department of Probation and Parole and School meetings. 

Position Type: Per Diem

Pay Range: $19.00-$20.00 per hour

Work Location: 713 Union St., Hudson, NY 12534 

Shift Schedule: (Hours will Vary) After school 3:00pm-8:00pm, Mon-Fri and weekends depending on program and youth needs.

Job Duties: 

• Make a one-year commitment to mentoring.
• Schedule weekly meetings with youth up to 5 hours per week.
• Attend all trainings as required.
• Attend all necessary staff and supervision meetings.
• Document all work in the community with assigned youth.
• Notify the Program Coordinator if unable to keep my weekly mentoring session.
• Engage in the relationship with an open mind.
• Accept assistance from mentee’s teacher and/or school support staff.
• Keep discussions with my mentee confidential, unless the child’s safety or well-being is at risk or suspected child abuse.
• Ask program support of Program Director when assistance is needed, do not understanding something or have difficulty with my mentoring relationship.
• Notify the Program Coordinator of any significant change in mentee.
• Refrain from contacting or seeing mentee outside of the established parameters and supervised sites where the program takes place.

Requirements

• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalency, some college education preferred.

• Must be self-motivated.
• Must have excellent verbal, written, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Experience working with Youth.
• Must have proficiency and adaptability with computer software and web-based systems with the aptitude to learn additional systems quickly and efficiently.
• Ability to work with a diverse population of urban, suburban and rural cultures and with community members from varying socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Demonstrate a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
• Regular and steady attendance is a requirement for all positions.

All offers are contingent upon successful Statewide Central Registry (SCR), fingerprint clearance and possession of a valid NYS driver’s license with a MVR eligible for agency insurance coverage.
